A lot of thought went into the preparation stage for this Halloween special project of the Rem Little Demon styling. Rem's classic image from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is deeply rooted in people's hearts, but this time I wanted to combine Halloween elements to try something a bit different. To restore the allure of the little demon, I deliberately chose black glossy leather for the costume material. This material has a built-in reflective effect under the lighting, which can wonderfully outline body lines; not only does it have extremely high adhesion, but it also carries a sense of dangerous temptation. The strapless design of the dress, paired with white lace trim and black satin ribbon bows on the chest, finds a great balance point between pure and seductive. Paired with black long gloves of the same material, it makes the overall texture more unified.
In terms of wig and makeup, the classic blue short hair is a must. To make the gaze closer to the little demon's slightly sly yet deep feeling, I wore red-pink contact lenses and intensified a large area of flushed blush under the eyes, matching an intoxication-feeling eye makeup; the overall makeup look gives off an unreal doll-like feel. The huge red wide-brimmed witch hat on top of the head is definitely a signature item for Halloween, and I manually tied a bow on it with a pink ribbon, forming a strong visual contrast amidst the cool-toned blue hair. The black glossy little demon wings on the back are also a major highlight of this styling; they are moderate in size without looking bulky, while enriching the layering of the back very well during the shoot.
The choice of shooting scene is crucial for creating the atmosphere. We chose a dark brown vintage leather sofa, matched with the dark red curtain wall and vintage grandfather clock in the background; the overall dim environment allows the lighting to focus better on the character. To echo the Halloween theme, I arranged glowing jack-o'-lanterns and autumn yellowish-brown maple leaves in the scene. In terms of lighting, we utilized the jack-o'-lanterns in the foreground as a warm light source to illuminate the face and gloves from bottom to top, while matching the cool light from the top; the interweaving of cool and warm light gives the frame more dramatic tension.
In action design, I tried two different ways of expression. For the kneeling pose, I held the jack-o'-lantern with both hands, leaning forward slightly to focus on displaying the upper body curves and chest details, looking straight into the lens, trying to capture a mysterious feeling of wanting to interact with you. As for the sitting pose on the sofa, it focuses more on the overall posture display. With crossed legs, glossy over-the-knee leather boots paired with black thigh rings on the thighs, it showcases leg lines to the maximum extent. Slightly tilting the head combined with a somewhat lazy gaze naturally reveals the little demon's tsundere and allure.
Although the material of this outfit looks great, it is indeed not very breathable, and during the shoot, I had to constantly adjust my posture to ensure the flatness of the leather clothing. However, seeing the final photos able to present this unique holiday atmosphere, all the previous hard work was totally worth it.
