This cosplay photoshoot set of Dyadia was completed along the autumn-winter wooden boardwalk at Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. During preliminary discussions with photographer Li Zhishan Oath, we decided to leverage the garden's natural backdrop of fallen leaves and timber pilings to accentuate an ethereal yet vintage ambiance. To ensure visual impact, the outfit's details were meticulously tailored: an orange-red main bodice framed by deep navy and black lapels adorned with geometric linework, paired with dramatically elongated sleeves edged in flowing ribbons. The mask motif ornament at the chest, the teal wig, and crimson contact lenses all served to closely reflect the canon design. For the lower half, white pantyhose (Stockings) were paired with red-and-white high heels, featuring heart-shaped cut-out nuances on the legs to deliver an airy yet enigmatic visual presence.
The sunlight was glorious on shooting day, filtering through the foliage to cast gorgeous dappled shadows across the frame. Nevertheless, navigating this ensemble outdoors presented no small challenge. While the voluminous sleeves flowed with breathtaking grace in motion, they easily caught in the breeze or snagged against the boardwalk ropes, demanding lengthy adjustments between poses. To inject dynamic vitality, I explored balancing on one foot while sweeping the long sleeves wide, or dropping to one knee while lofting the fabric skyward. The photographer shot from low, upward-tilted angles to fill the composition, creating the illusion of dancing on the wind. The pink and blue plush companion dolls were integrated through mid-air tossing burst shots and compositing: I tossed them upward while instantly locking my expression and poise, striving to freeze the decisive moment. Rushing across the wooden boardwalk in high heels while keeping the wig from being disheveled by wind was physically exhausting, yet it truly honed my physical expression for the character.
For makeup, to complement the teal tresses, the eye styling incorporated soft crimson gradients alongside red contact lenses, lending the gaze an enlivened spark. In the shot seated on the deck with legs extended, that angle sculpted leg lines gorgeously; the sharp contrast between the white pantyhose and red-soled heels, harmonized with sleeves trailing onto the floor, resulted in a richly layered frame. The backdrop of Fairy Lake Botanical Garden—filled with withered reeds and barren branches—formed an exquisite chromatic contrast against the costume's warm orange-red. Throughout the session, I strived to capture Dyadia's playful yet fated demeanor, hoping every glance and subtle movement of my fingertips would convey something distinct. Outdoor location shoots naturally require harmonizing with sunlight, terrain, and wind, but reviewing the final cuts made every ounce of effort profoundly worthwhile. Every click of the shutter was a renewed dialogue with this character.
