The shoot took place at night under the warm yellow glow of streetlights; paired with golden confetti props scattering all around, the entire scene naturally took on the theatrical ambiance of a magic performance. Being the one responsible for silence, maintaining tranquility and mystery before the camera actually demands subtle control over micro-movements far more than portraying lively characters.
I really love the texture of this costume. The fine pinstripes of the long white shirt complement my skin tone beautifully under the lighting, while the outer black leather corset accented with gold buckles flatters my body proportions. The black leather skirt paired with tall Stockings and boots produced a crisp, distinct sound when walking across the cobblestones. During the shoot, I intentionally designed several poses holding playing cards: facing the cards toward the camera while steadying my gaze, looking not into the lens but following the light from behind. Catching the light just right as the golden confetti drifted down took precise timing.
To match the character's aloof demeanor, I minimized facial expressions during shooting, keeping facial contours soft so that the purple eyes appeared more luminous under the warm light. With my partner cosplaying Lyney enlivening the atmosphere before the camera, I only needed to relax my body and let each motion flow naturally like water. In particular, the shot where I lower my head while holding the hat, captured from a low-angle upward perspective, showcases the lines of the Stockings perfectly while emphasizing the costume's layering and flattering the visual silhouette of the legs.
A lot of thought went into the lighting for this shoot. The European-style architecture in the background created a vintage mood in the nightscape; to keep it from stealing the spotlight, we deliberately suppressed the background brightness, preserving only the glowing contours of the warm yellow streetlights. Communicating with the photographer prior to shooting, we aimed to capture both the mystique of a Magician and that inherent serenity—just as the dialogue goes: he is responsible for igniting passion, while I am responsible for bringing everything to a flawless close. Thus, post-processing was kept minimal, retaining some of the natural grain characteristic of night photography, which I feel is the authentic texture that best fits this Fatui character's covert demeanor.
While posing in this outfit, movements couldn't be overly broad, nor could they be too rigid. The leather vest was quite snug yet hugged the silhouette well. Standing upon the stone steps of the vintage architecture, holding that black top hat adorned with a blue-violet ribbon, I felt completely immersed in character. By the time the shoot wrapped, although somewhat exhausted, looking through the resulting photos in camera made me feel that the nightscape and lighting had provided the ultimate stage backdrop, naturally culminating in a seamless shoot.
Throughout crafting this photoshoot set, I've always felt that a so-called flawless finale requires not a single word—simply sitting there, arranging the final playing card, slipping on gloves, and turning away is more than enough. As partners, Lyney's vibrant energy served as a wonderful complement, while I handled the wrap-up and quiet stillness. In terms of color grading in post-production, we deliberately accentuated golden ribbons to create a visual spotlight on the subject under stage-like lighting, making the entire set feel rich with narrative depth.
Because we tried numerous sets of poses during the shoot, the shots that made the final cut reflect the postures I felt most comfortable in. My goal was to synthesize expression, prop placement, and posture into one seamless rhythm rather than chasing flashy, erratic snaps, truly savoring this quiet and reserved character texture. I hope everyone who sees this set can also experience that serene yet exquisite Magician atmosphere.
