The Rem Chinese style look captured this time incorporates numerous traditional elements into its garment design. The core outfit consists of a mini dress color-blocked in blue, black, and gold, keeping a black mandarin stand collar and blue frog buttons at the neckline, accented with gold piping along the chest and skirt sides. To enhance a sense of airy lightness, the arms were paired with sheer wide sleeves of transparent gauze and long white fluttering ribbons; when walking or posing, these fabrics drift along with the breeze, effortlessly cultivating dynamic grace. The inner layer of the skirt hem features a white lace underskirt cut at an ideal length to flatter the leg lines.
The wig remains the iconic pale periwinkle blunt-bang short bob, with a lace-trimmed headpiece adorned with yellow blossoms and blue tassels, which, paired with red colored contacts, makes the facial palette much brighter. Sunlight was wonderful on the day of the shoot, so a classical garden with traditional Chinese architecture and lush greenery was chosen as the venue. Because it was an outdoor location with abundant light, I specially adjusted the foundation's finish to keep skin looking clear and translucent before the lens.
The props prepared this time were very rich, including an artisan umbrella hand-painted with floral patterns and a bamboo steamer basket. Inside the steamer sat plump, steaming white buns; holding it in hand or hoisting it above the head naturally fused the 2D character's cuteness with warm, down-to-earth everyday life. To harmonize with these props, the choreography incorporated numerous jumps, spins, and extended poses. For instance, in a shot standing on one leg while holding the umbrella, maintaining balance while letting the ribbons and skirt hem trace a clean, sweeping parabolic curve was a serious test of core strength. For leg details, I wore deep purple-black over-the-knee stockings featuring gold metallic buckles at the garter attachments with dangling blue tassels, where the thigh strappings neatly echoed the overall garment design.
In terms of chiaroscuro and lighting, we made full use of natural diffused light under tree shade to prevent direct sunlight from casting harsh shadows across the face. The photographer was exceptionally skilled at freezing kinetic moments—such as trailing ribbons catching the wind or the instant of turning while holding the steamer. To deepen narrative immersion, I explored varied expressions, from smiling interactions to quiet, contemplative gazes straight into the camera.
The entire shoot felt like a holistic character immersion: from refining costume details to incorporating props and matching the environment, every facet required careful synchronization. This set not only documents fidelity in appearance, but also embodies my interpretation and expression of Traditional Chinese style elements. Integrating a 2D character into a setting steeped in classical elegance was truly a distinct and memorable creative experience.
