For this Halloween Rem styling, I deliberately chose all-black patent leather for the costume material. The glossiness of the patent leather strapless dress is extremely eye-catching in front of the lens; paired with vintage warm lighting, the highlights are evenly distributed, maximizing the texture. To fit the Halloween atmosphere, I paired it with a large red-and-black color-blocked witch hat, and the yellow inner lining of the brim brightened the overall dark tone. The wig was trimmed into blunt bangs, and the haze blue tone has a strong visual impact when contrasted with the black clothing, while blue contact lenses were chosen to echo the hair color.
A lot of thought went into setting up the scene. To create the feel of a dark magical study, the background used dark wooden bookshelves stacked with distressed books. A parchment map was spread on the table, scattered with jack-o'-lanterns of various sizes, vintage candelabras, and skull ornaments. In one photo where I am sitting on the edge of the table, the black cauldron prop beside me actually had a bit of white smoke pumped in, which, combined with the warm yellow candlelight, immediately created the right atmosphere.
In terms of shooting poses, I tried using a trident prop as an aid. When standing or sitting while holding the trident, you need to pay attention to wrist strength, otherwise the photos will look limp. Sitting on a wooden treasure chest with crossed legs, or stepping one foot on a pumpkin, this posture nicely showcases the lines of the over-the-knee patent leather boots, and the details of the thigh rings and garter stockings are also very clear in the lens. When stepping on the pumpkin, your center of gravity must be stable, and your expression needs to maintain that slightly arrogant yet playful little devil vibe.
This time, small bat wing accessories on the back were also added, which, combined with the action of holding the brim of the hat, nicely flatters the shoulder and neck lines. Throughout the shooting process, although the patent leather material looks great, controlling the reflections was a difficulty. The photographer used a main side light plus a softbox when lighting, avoiding large areas of blown-out white on the patent leather caused by strong frontal light. I am very satisfied with the overall outcome; the details are rich, the poses are well-extended, and it has that whimsical and spooky Halloween spirit.
