I've finally sorted through and organized these convention photos from Firefly ACG Expo. Honestly, when I initially decided to cosplay Reze from Chainsaw Man, I was drawn toward her innate tragedy and poignant melancholy. However, the outdoor weather at the convention was unexpectedly phenomenal—bathed in radiant sunshine, the interplay of light and shadow catching the white feathered wings and black dress produced an entirely distinct sense of vitality, making me feel as though she could truly stand freely in the sun.
First, regarding the styling concept: the overarching design is a monochrome maid-inspired look. To give the character unmistakable flair, I added plush black animal ears accented with miniature bows and golden bells. On my back were white feathered wings, while I held a small bundle of white daisies as a delicate focal prop. For makeup, staying true to her palette, I wore vivid green contact lenses and applied a richer blush, which, paired with the purplish-auburn bob wig, looked crisp and fresh under natural daylight. Because the skirt features tiered layers of lace and netting, it flairs with lovely volume as I walk; underneath, I paired it with over-the-knee black Stockings and strapped black patent shoes, which not only elongated the leg lines visually but also introduced dynamic textural depth.
The shooting process was a true test of patience. Because the outfit carried so many intricate details and over-the-knee socks naturally tend to slip down during outdoor movement, I had to pause and readjust my posture and garments after almost every pose. Photo 1 shows me crouching along the stone steps cradling the flowers, where I aimed to evoke a calm, expectant poise; bending my knees required close attention to the smooth stretch of the black Stockings and where the hem settled, ensuring the lace trim fanned out organically across the step. Photo 2 is my personal favorite: standing while lifting the black skirt hem, the photographer had me turn slightly at an angle, gently holding the daisies in one hand while lifting the fabric with the other. To freeze the exact frame where the skirt flared open with fluid drape, we ran through several takes—wrist pressure had to be dialed in with precision so the fabric wouldn't look bunched or rumpled. In Photo 3, with arms folded across my chest and the daisies resting on the paving stones, I channeled a slightly detached yet effortlessly nonchalant mood.
The outdoor spot we scouted at the convention was wonderful: backed by glass curtain walls and lush greenery over clean stone pavers, there were no chaotic background distractions, allowing the interaction between subject and natural light to take center stage. Although convention halls are always bustling, capturing that airy, sunlit lightness tinged with a quiet trace of sorrow felt deeply rewarding. Cosplaying Reze inevitably calls to mind her bittersweet storyline, yet through this outdoor shoot, I sought to explore a brighter, more radiant visual language through the lens.
For post-processing and color grading, I preserved the authentic warmth of the day's natural light, emphasizing the striking contrast between pure white feathers and the black dress without dragging the tone into excessive darkness. Polishing these convention photos took considerable time, mainly fine-tuning skin tones and ambient lighting consistency. I truly hope everyone enjoys this set of Chainsaw Man Reze convention photos.
