The wig overall features a light blue tone for the twin-tails, topped with a white rabbit-nest-like fluffy hair accessory and scattered red hearts. The pinkish-orange hair highlights on both sides of the sideburns required parting and pinning the hair in layers while keeping the volume of the styling. This took quite a bit of effort during the hairstyle processing at that time, because it was necessary to first put on the wig net, part the thick hair into layers, and use specialized wig glue and bobby pins to secure the high twin-tail position, preventing it from collapsing due to the heavy headpiece. For the makeup, to restore the character's manga-like temperament, matte-effect products were used for the base makeup to avoid excessive reflections affecting the texture. The eye makeup part adopted light-colored contact lenses that enlarge the eyes, paired with curved eyeliner to make the gaze more agile and sweet, while not losing a touch of sharpness.
A lot of thought was also put into the considerations for the clothing. The core theme of this outfit is blending a basic black maid outfit with the character's classic elements, wearing a black bowknot at the neckline as a visual anchor. The black top combined with the massive white ruffled collar forms the core area that generates a strong visual contrast of black and white. The cuffs maintained the black ruffled design and were fitted with white wrist guards to make the lines of the arms look neater and cleaner. The focus lies on the skirt hem part; a wide strap bowknot is tied on the white apron, and the waistline was intentionally raised by me a bit, which can effectively elongate the visual proportion of the lower body, avoiding looking short due to the large volume of the petticoat. The lower hem chose a black fluffy skirt hem, but the bottom-most layer was specially made with a layer of white ruffled lining as a trim, which can create a dessert-like layered texture when kneeling or lifting the skirt hem.
For the leg pairing, highly opaque white tights with strong wrapping qualities were chosen. This texture can beautifully sculpt the leg shapes while avoiding unnecessary reflection interference between the leather garment and the background when bare-legged. The feet were fitted with a pair of light greyish-blue fluffy soft shoes, making the overall styling filled with a soft and cute girlish feel from head to toe. When shooting these two photos, I tried my best to relax my facial muscles and maintain natural micro-expressions. The first photo is a snapshot of a sitting posture; the feeling during shooting at that time was relatively quiet and natural. I sat on the white plush carpet provided on site, with my legs naturally bent in front of my body, fingers gently stroking the fabric on the side of the clothes. When my gaze looked slightly toward the lens with a hint of softness, it perfectly matched the daily feel of the portrayed character. The second photo adopted a kneeling pose with a lively action of lifting the skirt hem. I believe this scene showcases the most adorable and playful side of this outfit. By propping the skirt hem outward with both hands, the white apron edges, the black skirt bottom, and the white ruffled hemline are completely displayed, giving the clothing's layered design and fluffiness a stronger visual tension.
Of course, in actual convention shooting scenes, the lighting and live environment often pose challenges to the photo quality. In the background of the first photo, there are blurred streams of passing crowds and incandescent lamps inside the mall, and on the right side of the background of the second photo, glowing red billboards and installations can be seen, which interfere to some extent with the color tone of the subject. Therefore, during early定妆 (makeup freezing), I intentionally had the photographer set a warm balance in-camera to neutralize the cool ambient light, while preserving the low-saturation feel of the clothing colors during post-processing retouching to highlight the fair whiteness of the character's skin base. The structure of this Rabbit Hole maid outfit is much more complex than traditional maid outfits, especially the layered ruffles and straps, making it very inconvenient to use the restroom or walk through the venue on site, requiring constant organizing and smoothing. Although the process was hard, when you see the ideal visual presentation appear in the finished product, all these preparations gain meaning.
Why did I finally settle on this look? Because the character Hatsune Miku herself possesses extremely high approachability, and the Rabbit Hole theme I chose can wrap the originally cool elements into the sweetness and cuteness of a maid outfit, which both preserves the soul of the 2D character and prevents everyday passersby from finding it hard to approach. In an occasion like an anime convention where a large number of enthusiasts gather, a C-服 (cosplay costume) with heavy texture and a high completion rate always gains a good turnaround rate. During the shooting process, I not only wanted to capture static frames but also wanted to transmit a lively feel as if it were a game screenshot. The carpet and the large-area application of white, supplemented by bright blue and pink small ornaments, successfully crafted my personal style of fashion expression.
