[Skirk Cosplay] Winter Expedition to Genshin Impact Convention, Keeping Cool Vibe Despite Shivering Hands

This photo today was taken inside the convention hall. Although I'm wearing such a thick off-white down coat with the collar pulled up high, what I actually wore underneath was Skirk's classic design. Taking a close-up selfie like this on-site at the convention, encountering a sudden cold drop while doing a cool-type character is truly a cosplayer's nightmare. Wigs and outfits can't offer thorough warmth like they do during a formal studio shoot, but I still insisted on facing the camera with the most character-accurate state possible.

While taking this set of photos, my hands were truly shivering from the cold. The indoor heating in the south simply couldn't handle the freezing wind while queuing up outside early in the morning to enter. At the time, I held my phone in one hand to find an angle while tightly clutching my collar with the other, fearing cold wind blowing down my neck. But to take a great photo, I gritted my teeth and pulled the coat zipper to where it is now, leaving room for facial and neck lines. Honestly, doing winter cosplay in such cold weather is a huge test of physical strength, endurance, and makeup longevity, especially walking back and forth between temperature differences inside and outside the venue where foundation easily gets dry or oily.

To pursue the red-eyed effect, I wore these deep red colored contacts for quite a while. To match Skirk's eye makeup, the outer corners of the eyes needed to be drawn with a slightly upturned, sharp feel, and combined with detailed treatment of lower lashes, the overall demeanor in this red eye makeup look was immediately elevated. However, these red contact lenses eat up light in front of the lens; without attention, one's gaze easily becomes unfocused or lacks highlights, so I had to stare dead center into the phone's camera lens while shooting. For the wig, a silver-white base with a blue-purple gradient at the tips and inner layers was chosen. This color reflects light very easily under the convention's top lights, so when styling the bangs and side strands, I made a few light trims to frame the face while adding a touch of casual battle vibe.

On that day, I specifically chose a coat with a large collar that could wrap around my face. Although it sacrificed some of the original design's high-skin-exposure summer/ethereal feel, for players like us who love running around conventions in winter, staying warm is the top priority. Honestly, I knew full well that photos taken in a thick coat wouldn't have the same visual impact as those lightweight fashion shots, but completing a check-in under such harsh, icy conditions made that unyielding spirit feel like the truest fit for the character. After cosplaying for so many years, I increasingly feel that character recreation isn't just a 100% match on costumes and props, but an unwavering persistence in overcoming various real-world difficulties to showcase that persona.

The surrounding environment on set was quite lively, with other passersby occasionally visible in the background, so these two photos were taken quickly by snapping away during a brief gap when my companion helped steer clear of crowds. Because the venue crowd was extremely dense, there was no chance to find an open corner to set up a tripod for slow shooting. I could only look up using this bottom-up close-range perspective to showcase the character's unique cool-toned presence. Looking back, this intimate shot carries quite an infectious energy; lacking overly polished lighting actually gives it a more authentic convention photos feel.

As a Genshin Impact character with a unique backstory and a cool, tough exterior, Skirk has always been memorable among players. Being able to bring this Skirk cosplay look to the convention this time and having people recognize and interact with me on site made me immensely happy. Although my body was stiffened by the cold wind, this trip reminded me of that simple joy when I first fell in love with this game character, further strengthening my resolve to bring more beloved game characters into the real world.
