Shooting this set required careful consideration of lighting conditions on-site, especially when trying to highlight glossy textures. As my first attempt combining high-shine Patent leather with form-fitting attire, I invested considerable effort from prop preparation to convention photography. The main costume features cool-toned glossy white and blue, which casts noticeable specular reflections under overhead lighting. Thus, during post-processing, I intentionally desaturated the background to black and white, maximizing visual focus on the costume and subject. The most satisfying parts of this look are the subtle light blue gradient at the hair tips and the red twin horns atop my head, serving as vibrant warm highlights against the cool-toned outfit. To match the overall anime aesthetic, the iridescent Magic wand was custom-made; its holographic surface refracts distinct halos across different lighting angles, offering a solid, satisfying weight in hand.
Convention venues are typically crowded and cluttered, making shots easily look chaotic. I selected a relatively open, industrial-style lower hall with an interplay of grey, white, and black that fit the required cool, sleek atmosphere nicely. Throughout the shoot, managing glossy reflections posed the greatest challenge. While Patent leather and leg highlights are visually striking, excessive specular glare can easily appear oily. My photographer and I frequently adjusted camera positions and flash angles to ensure highlights fell in natural spots, showcasing a sleek, modern fashion sense without overpowering the subject. The small wing and gem decorations at the ankles served as another highlight, with red high heels echoing the overall red-blue-white color palette. Walking around a convention in high heels all day was quite tiring—especially with the stiff skirt fabric limiting mobility—yet seeing the sharp, upright silhouette in the final Convention photos makes every effort worthwhile.
For wig styling, I chose long straight white hair styled into a high ponytail to convey dynamic energy, where hair length added visual motion while walking. Many friends at the convention asked about the fabric choice; while high-reflection fabrics look stunning on camera, wearing them indoors during summer gets extremely muggy. For makeup, I opted for dark red eyeshadow to intensify my gaze, aligning the makeup with a magical girl or battle mage aesthetic. Producing final Convention photos wasn't easy, as balancing light and fabric textures required repeated trial and error. Choosing this outfit for the convention allowed me to share my passion for glossy techwear-inspired fashion—after all, as an Anime cosplayer, beyond physical resemblance, feeling a character's aura and vitality while wearing their attire is a unique joy. Though the final layout feels spacious, this negative space perfectly allows the character's strength and refinement to shine through, which is what touches me most about costume design.
