Cosplaying Hu Tao from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT for an entire day at the Taiyuan Firefly Anime Convention, this yellow modified cropped top paired with white shorts was both highly recognizable and delightfully lightweight on the convention floor. The thick, fluffy white tail at the back was the soul of the entire styling, which, combined with the two bun hairstyles on top adorned with red ribbons and white pom-poms plus trailing twin braids, instantly endowed me with the character's energetic spirit upon completing the hair and makeup.
The yellow short stick prop in hand was custom-made specifically for this photoshoot, featuring metal chain details that gave off the nimble vibe of a martial arts girl when swung around. Honestly speaking though, wearing this skin-baring martial outfit alongside the heavy tail while maneuvering through crowded convention halls all day was a real test of stamina. To maintain the tail's fluffiness in front of the lens, I frequently had to navigate around tight spots where it could easily get snagged in the crowd.
The lighting in the exhibition hall was exceptionally clear, especially around the stage area with several sets of powerful spotlights. A photographer friend helped capture multiple angles in front of the booth. Whether deep squatting or kneeling on one knee, the poses showcased the tailoring advantages of the costume, particularly the white waist tie cords and the crisp lines of the shorts, giving the overall styling a sharp and refreshing look.
That day, our on-site shooting area was located near the check-in booth of the PEGT National Esports Tournament, an event backdrop that resonated wonderfully with Hu Tao's agile and martial-combat persona. You always meet so many passionate fans at anime conventions, chatting about character-cosplaying experiences while exchanging photos. Fellow cosplayers and fans were very considerate of my bulky prop and tail, making the entire experience feel heartwarming.
By the afternoon, after a full day of touring the halls and posing, my physical energy reached its limit. Heading to the food court for an iced drink and taking a big sip through a straw was easily the most relaxing moment of the entire convention itinerary. The candid snap my friend took of me sipping my drink—with its delightfully dorky, authentic charm—formed a striking contrast with the polished, posed shots from earlier. Cosplay isn't just about presenting the most flawless posture before the lens; shedding the idol persona and enjoying a milk tea with total ease is also a deeply fun part of convention memories.
The atmosphere at this Taiyuan Firefly Anime Convention was truly fantastic, and the overall experience was wonderful. Choosing to cosplay a bright yellow Hu Tao in this weather blended seamlessly with the expo's vibrant, lively energy. The design of The Way of the Dragon outfit itself is distinctively stylish, and whether in polished on-site shots or casual candid snaps, it brought out the character's unique charm. Although physically tired, enjoying the convention's fun and the enthusiasm of fellow fans made all the preparation and effort worthwhile, serving as a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to this offline journey in NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Convention photos.
