[Hiyuki cosplay] Wuthering Waves: An Aloof Japanese-Style Cool Older Sister in a Cool-Toned Studio

This shoot for Hiyuki from Wuthering Waves experimented with an intensely cool-toned lighting scheme: large washes of ice-blue lighting flooded the studio, accented by warm touches of red maple leaves, a crimson umbrella, and red lanterns to create a striking cool-warm contrast that proved exceptionally photogenic.

The wardrobe featured a modernized kimono cut in white with blue trim; the off-the-shoulder design paired with blue floral ornaments at the bust and cinched waist cords delivered a look both sleek and aloof. The blue hair accessories and crystal tassels atop the wig also matched the character's canon design seamlessly.

To honor the character's Japanese-style cool older sister temperament, makeup focused on vivid crimson pupils and a pristine, translucent base. Beyond the signature katana prop, we incorporated a black ceramic bowl and a red sake decanter. Whether raising the bowl with one hand or resting the blade while looking down into the lens, keeping a taut, upright posture was essential to prevent the styling from sagging.

The fifth photo in particular adopted a high-angle downward perspective: to achieve elongated body lines, I wore white stiletto high heels and stretched one leg forward, which worked alongside the corset waist to visually stretch the silhouette. Among the selects, this composition felt the most open and balanced without awkward edge cropping, making it my personal favorite.

Pairing the katana with the red umbrella introduced clever dynamics: the umbrella diffused harsh highlights across the face, while the polished white sheath and blade caught the ambient blue lighting to enhance metallic reflections.

Posing across the studio for hours was demanding—balancing on gravel while keeping the trailing hem clean took constant vigilance. Fortunately, the photographer locked in precise camera angles, and post-processing resisted oversaturation to preserve an icy, pristine clarity. Exploring a cool-toned palette in a Japanese studio setup made for a fulfilling session entirely dedicated to channeling the character's true persona.
