[Himouto! Umaru-chan Doma Umaru cosplay] On-Site Record of Recreating the UMR Persona in Arcade photography

This shoot in the arcade to portray the UMR persona of Doma Umaru focused primarily on integrating the classic red-and-black palette with the arcade's vibrant atmosphere. In the first shot, sitting on a high stool with legs naturally crossed, this specific wide-angle perspective perfectly showcases the complete proportions of the Black over-the-knee stockings and shorts silhouette. Meanwhile, the red newsboy cap and red jacket created a striking color contrast against the cool blue neon background. Poses such as holding a lollipop in my mouth or clutching a red beverage can were all designed to fit the character lore, harmonizing the overall styling within the frame.

The shots crouching in front of the claw machine fiddling with the buttons were a spontaneous spark of inspiration on set. Because the lighting environment in the arcade is fairly complex, we had to constantly prevent the blue ambient light from completely overpowering the vivid red of the outfit. Thus, I deliberately lowered my center of gravity to bring my face closer to the camera, fixing my gaze intently on the joystick. Even though I maintained a great attitude and didn't manage to win a single plushie in the end, that state of earnestly observing the machine was captured very vividly.

During post-processing, the main focus was restoring the texture of the environment. The exaggerated perspective brought by the wide-angle lens needed strict control, while refining the facial contours and skin texture with greater delicate finesse. The long hair and trailing strands also added a sense of dynamic movement to the frame. The over-the-knee stockings naturally had a reflective sheen under cool lighting, so care was taken to preserve their gradient without appearing overly harsh. To nail that cocky yet tsundere expression, I had to quickly catch the right moments when shifting between side and frontal profiles. This outdoor UMR setting is all about projecting a casual yet cool and stylish vibe in front of various arcade gaming cabinets.

Aside from claw machines, the motorcycle arcade machine was another fantastic photo spot—straddling the bike directly while pressing down on the cap brim and looking up at the lens projected a stronger aura, making the red-and-black coordination feel even sharper. Since the character wears distinctive Black over-the-knee stockings and shorts, adjusting leg positioning was an integral part of the action design. Throughout the shoot, I maintained continuous communication with the photographer on camera angles to ensure the subject remained in the optimal frame zone. The entire session went very smoothly; my partner handled lighting expertly, making full use of ambient reflections through machine glass windows. The final photos turned out richly textured, achieving high atmospheric fidelity.
