Putting on this Trails of Ink outfit for Yixuan, my first impression was that the patent leather jacket was much more reflective than expected. Once the studio lights hit, the gold trim along the shoulders and waist immediately took on a crisp metallic texture. The silver-white wig was styled with layers, and the small hair clips on top were secured firmly so I didn't have to worry about losing shape whether moving outdoors or around the studio. The red pupil makeup paired with a cool porcelain base gave the eyes an aloof yet focused aura that fit the character's setting exceptionally well.
To showcase the overall silhouette of this outfit, I experimented with two different camera angles. The seated set was the most relaxed state throughout the shoot; the warm tone of the wooden armchair nicely balanced the cold rigidity of the black-and-white palette. When my legs were naturally crossed, the extending lines of the glossy black pointed-toe heels and sheer stockings looked fantastic on camera, with the toes slightly suspended in mid-air to visually elongate leg proportions in this Stockings cosplay. The standing pose emphasized the flowing hem of the jacket and the grey-white printed details on the cuffs; when extending my arms, the wide cuffs draped down, and paired with a subtle touch to the chin, captured a hint of vitality and confidence.
The hardest part of this Black tights outfit styling is that patent leather can easily overexpose into harsh highlights under strong lighting. Therefore, we deliberately adjusted the angle of the softboxes during the shoot to keep reflections across the lacquer finish even while preserving the matte texture of the tights. For footwear, I chose pointed-toe stiletto heels, which match the overall sharp and sleek aesthetic. Standing for long periods did strain the soles of my feet, but holding a steady pose was well worth it for clean visual lines.
For hair and makeup, numerous invisible bobby pins were used to secure the wig and hair accessories, ensuring nothing shifted when looking down or turning around. The blue circular badge on the chest is riveted in place, positioned just right. The garment's cut emphasizes the waistline, where the tapered waist and golden triangular pendants create a very natural visual transition between the upper and lower body. The entire shoot took about three hours, switching between two lighting setups, and the final selects faithfully restored the intended cool-toned atmosphere.
When organizing the photos later, I realized that many details only needed slight white-balance and color-temperature adjustments in post-production to shine—the layered dimensions of the patent leather jacket and the sheer texture of the stockings held up even better under real lighting than anticipated. As a comprehensive styling project, every step from trimming the wig to coordinating accessories was calibrated to the character's original design tone. The resulting presence is solid and polished, while still leaving plenty of room for future refinement.
