[Astra Yao Cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero's Idol Stage: Holding the Microphone to Speak to You

The convention photos for the first day were taken in this somewhat industrial underground parking lot. The low-key venue found by photographer @龙骧nightfall, combined with hard overhead lighting, perfectly captured all the texture and high-contrast colors of Astra Yao's Fes look. Although the shooting site was a bit cold, the moment the spotlight hit my body, I truly felt like I had stepped onto the center of the stage, ready to sing.

This time the layout is the Fes version, and the overall design elements are incredibly rich. The black off-the-shoulder crop top, the metal zipper on the chest, and the white paneling at the neckline, along with the signature red bow tie, combine to retain that cool and sharp anime attribute while carrying a touch of daily techwear flavor. The metal-eyelet belt at the waist connects to the white short skirt, and the black crisscross lacing on the side of the skirt is one of my favorite details of the entire outfit.

The black stockings paired for the lower body are very special, featuring a distressed cutout design. Coordinated with the black leather thigh ring on the right leg, along with the white platform lace-up boots and black slouch socks on top, the elongating effect of this black stockings techwear style outfit is excellent. To reproduce the character, the wig used is ultra-long straight black hair, with straight bangs and face-framing sidelocks. For makeup, the focus was placed on that touch of red eyeshadow blending and that signature teardrop mole, paired with matching watermelon-red lip gloss, and a pair of star-shaped openwork drop earrings. The whole vibe is incredibly striking—unapologetically cool yet carrying a hint of an idol halo.

Interactive props are truly indispensable during shoots. The photographer specially prepared a small white suitcase, which happened to let me sit on it to adjust my posture. Resting both hands on my knees while making a salute gesture, or biting the corner of my glasses while looking at the camera, brings different emotional paths to the frame. Of course, the most representative item is that black microphone; holding it while pointing with one hand into the distance, or opening both arms naturally toward the lens—this body language brings an immense sense of immersion, making me feel like a performer standing under the spotlight for a brief moment.

The quote in my post caption, "The next song is dedicated to our future!" perfectly matches the emotion we wanted to convey in this shoot. It wasn't just about posing strictly to showcase the character, but wanting her to express a confident, firm, and lightweight stage charm in this specific environment. When engaging in cosplay creation, sometimes you not only need to replicate the character's appearance and costume, but you also need to understand their aura and use photography to freeze that inner tension.

From costume prototyping and preparation to on-site makeup and styling, and finally falling into place with the lighting, every step was a result of division of labor and collaboration. Now that the finished convention photos are out, I feel that the overall atmosphere and action tension are quite spot-on. Midway through the shoot, occasional passersby at the convention who saw such a high-contrast style would cast their eyes and give praise. The energy level after applying the makeup and putting on the entire outfit indeed forms a huge contrast with my daily state. Thanks to the photographer's professional snapshots; overall, it was a highly delightful photography experience.
