After finishing this photoshoot themed around New Eridu's night scenery, seeing the final photos made all the running around feel completely worthwhile. The night streets and shopping mall neon lights are packed with atmosphere; walking along stairways lined with anime quote posters created an immersive experience that truly felt like breaking the fourth wall.
This time, the main goal was to recreate that lazy nonchalance of her everyday JK uniform look. A breathable white shirt paired with a black pleated skirt with white stripe trim, along with black platform loafers and Black stockings, covered all the essential school-style outfit elements. The wig tips were specifically dyed with her iconic red highlights, while the cross hair clips on the side and the choker around the neck were essential details not to be missed. Under the nighttime light, the entire ensemble highlighted that cool yet effortless disposition beautifully.
We centered our shooting locations around high-contrast lighting environments. Parked red taxis along the curb, dense neon signs lining both sides of the street, and giant anime poster walls inside the mall all resonated closely with the character's setting in Zenless Zone Zero. Interacting with props also provided plenty of creative fun during this shoot. The massive black-and-white weapon with red accents had real weight in hand; resting it over my shoulder while walking instantly conveyed a sense of combat-ready intimidation, while the black plush tail prop added a touch of gap-moe charm as a visual complement.
Night portrait photography—especially cyberpunk-inspired outdoor shoots—places high demands on the photographer's lighting. To avoid messy colored light spilling across my face, we repeatedly fine-tuned our positioning and light angles. Huge thanks to photographer Zki for exceptional composition and snapshot timing, blending the vibrant bustle of the night city with the character's cool demeanor seamlessly.
Since our shooting schedule was tight, many standout shots were actually improvised on the fly. For instance, sitting on the taxi's hood came about when passing by and noticing how the car's red hue and my hair color aligned with the nearby "Taxi Stand" sign; we tried a quick set right there, and the resulting visual was fantastic. Later, leaning against the glass doors outside the mall with arms crossed and one leg rested was done to capture her signature casual, nonchalant attitude.
What I most wanted to capture in this portrayal was that contradictory everyday persona—someone who seems aloof and distant, yet doesn't truly push others away. Walking through the night in this gear amidst authentic traffic and pedestrian flow made bringing a 2D anime character to life in 3D reality feel tangible and grounded.
Beyond conventional standing and walking shots, I also experimented with interacting with a character acrylic standee. Holding the standee in one hand allowed it to serve as a secondary narrative subject within the frame; breaking dimensional boundaries like this proved thoroughly enjoyable in this environment. The shot from behind, ascending the stairs with the greatsword slung over my shoulder, was not the most complex pose, yet against the background of comic-style posters, its visual tension was palpable.
While outdoor location shoots are physically taxing—especially at night when you must constantly stay aware of ambient lights and surrounding crowds—delivering a satisfying set made everything worthwhile. This collection documenting New Eridu's nightscape represents my deep interpretation of the character, and I hope this Casual cosplay record brings an immersive experience through its atmospheric control and expressive portrayal.
