For Moca Aoba's birthday commemorative shoot, I put together an ensemble leaning heavily into a street-punk aesthetic. When commissioning the costume, I deliberated over fabrics for a long time, ultimately settling on structured materials that give the oversized jacket an effortless, nonchalant drape. The white typography and splattered graffiti details across the jacket are focal elements; to capture that unruly edge, the placement and composition were checked repeatedly against canon reference art. The tailoring of the black-and-white striped shorts was also reworked twice to perfect overall proportions.
Trimming and styling the wig took nearly two hours. Making Silver hair look natural requires not only defining hair layering, but keeping the roots lifted rather than plastered flat against the scalp. For makeup, I selected blue-green circle lenses to mirror her signature eye color, incorporating a soft under-eye drop shadow so her gaze feels both sharp and gently relaxed. Studio lighting was dialed up bright on shoot day, casting intense bounce off the white backdrop that tested makeup longevity, but the resulting skin textures remained luminous and crisp.
The prop guitar was a core highlight. The azure Electric guitar colliding with black-and-white striped shorts created striking visual contrast. To keep guitar postures organic, I spent considerable time practicing holding angles in front of a mirror at home, calibrating finger placement and shoulder tilt. The seated frame looking over the shoulder was my personal favorite: it beautifully showcased the synergy between over-the-knee Black stockings and combat boots, carving out clean leg lines under directional light. Standing guitar poses demanded balancing the jacket's drape with guitar positioning to maintain compositional harmony. To add kinetic energy, I tried playing while lifting one leg—a pose heavily testing core balance that left me fatigued, yet reviewing the proofs made every bit of effort worthwhile.
In terms of accessories, the black choker around the neck and the leather leg garter on the thigh served as subtle anchors, with metallic buckles popping against the clean white cyclorama. The mint-green socks peeking out from the tops of the boots added a playful pop of color. Other frames, such as resting a chin on one hand or lightly pinching the jacket's hem, were aimed at revealing her candid, relaxed persona. During studio takes, I kept movements fluid rather than stiffly staged, breathing naturally and guiding my gaze to channel genuine mood.
Overall, the studio setup emphasized monochrome contrast and cool tones, uniting with the blue guitar to establish a cool, celebratory birthday vibe. I hope Moca continues to enjoy her days with that same carefree freedom. Heartfelt thanks to the photographer for catching so many golden moments.
