Linnea from Genshin Impact has a playful and agile vibe. This outdoor shoot at a night lantern festival venue happens to restore the character's relaxed atmosphere through the lens.
This cosplay costume is highly exquisite in structure. The combination of white and red splicing with golden elements adds a sense of layering with the lacing on the chest, while the off-the-shoulder cut requires internal support to stay structured and stiff. The outer red arm-sleeves with white trim feature vintage rivet decorations; combined with a slightly loose over-sleeved look and the deep red leather of the bag, the visual presentation carries both the tidiness of an academic style and a fairy-tale charm. The light blue geometric hairpins on the head serve as an excellent dot on the orange-pink wig, and the color collision makes the head layers richer.
For the makeup, I focused on the delineation of the eyes. The red-pink contact lenses are key to restoring the character's aura. Utilizing a matte peach eyeshadow for a large area base, deepening with an orange-brown blend at the outer corners, and paired with curled eyelashes and a slender tight liner nicely frames that lively yet slightly sly gaze. To match the light peach-pink tone of the wig, the color of the eyebrows was also softened and lightened, keeping the overall soft colors as primary.
The wig is a highly important part of shaping the character's image. This time, I intentionally preserved the air bangs and micro-eight bangs design, while thinning the hair ends to avoid looking too heavy. Particularly interesting are the huge light blue and pale pink wing-like accessories on both sides; though these parts look lightweight, the securing structure at the attachment point needs to be hidden carefully to maintain a natural look. The clip-on elf ear props happen to be half-hidden by the hair at the temples; thus, different styling details reveal themselves from side angles and back-quarter views.
Because the shooting location was an outdoor night cultural street, the venue was packed with a large number of cyan-white neon tubes and geometric line lightboards, making the ambient light exceptionally brilliant. Using direct flash photography at night against this type of background easily produces high-contrast photos. I intentionally kept the hard light of the flash in the settings to make facial contours clearer and the skin tone more translucent, while the background light bokeh formed a bustling festive night atmosphere after being blurred out. This contrast precisely makes the character stand out more prominently during this Cosplay night photography session.
The pose of looking back while pulling the shoulder strap was a natural response captured on set, primarily to create a spatial turn between the body lines and the clothing, preventing the accessories on the shoulders from blocking the neck and facial outline. When shooting a character with a large number of accessories, the figure cannot completely face the camera directly; tilting the shoulders slightly leaves more breathing room in the composition. Applying makeup, doing the styling, positioning props, and finding the right on-site lighting angles—this entire process of daily makeup and styling sharing is a creative experience filled with artistry. 2D characters gain a new vitality in reality due to the differences in light, which is exactly the greatest pleasure of outdoor shoots, making a perfect entry for my Anime Life Archive.
