Choosing an Original setting look to interpret Rei Ayanami this time was mainly because the original combat plugsuit would feel too distant in an everyday scene like a bubble tea shop. Switching to this light green ruffled dress softened the overall demeanor considerably. The white choker and pearl necklace are the core accessories, outlining the character's signature cool detachment. The blue tone of the wig was carefully chosen, and paired with that white feather hair accessory, it added a delicate charm to the entire ensemble.
The eye makeup deliberately adopted cooler tones, paired with colored contact lenses to give the gaze a sharper focus. The green beverage in the photos was specifically ordered—it echoed the color of the dress perfectly while adding a touch of everyday life. The lighting in the shop was rather warm during shooting, so I tweaked the color temperature slightly on my phone to layer in a subtle cool-toned filter.
Styling this wig was actually quite tricky: the bangs needed a curling iron to shape a gentle curve so they would sit right across the eyes without completely obstructing my view. The dress is made of chiffon, which creates wonderful flowing texture with a breeze. The pearl necklace rests right over the collarbones, accentuating the necklines gracefully.
This was one of those rare, relaxed, and casual 2D everyday photoshoots since I started cosplay—free from the pressure of deliberate posing, where spontaneous snapshots yielded great results. Styling with an Original setting allowed me to experience the joy of breaking free from canonical costumes; despite being an original design, the combination of the white choker, blue hair, and light pastel palette still aligns seamlessly with that blue-haired girl's aura from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
I am by no means a professional makeup artist, and these styling details and camera angle insights were gradually figured out through trial and error. I hope to share a casual, everyday version of Rei Ayanami with everyone this way. Thank you all once again for watching.
