Today I'm sharing the photo archive of Rei Ayanami from Day 2 of CICF. For this shoot, I chose a white short wedding dress styling—preserving the signature cool detachment of Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion while infusing airy dress aesthetics. A tremendous amount of thought went into hair and makeup: to evoke that otherworldly texture, the wig was neatly trimmed and deliberately straightened, and the white feathered wing hairpiece on the crown was reinforced with multiple bobby pins to keep it from slipping or tilting while walking around the convention. The eye makeup featured generous washes of reddish eyeshadow paired with pale red circle lenses and elongated eyeliner, staying as faithful to the character concept as possible. The base foundation was kept porcelain-pale, with lips finished in a muted nude tone to sustain an overall cool ambiance.

Costume-wise, the white camisole dress features subtly shimmering lace jacquard that catches gorgeous reflections under natural sunlight and studio lamps alike. A long translucent train was added to the back to impart airy fluidity in motion. To complement the miniskirt, I picked clear transparent block heels; transparent straps are notoriously tricky to keep in place, so I wrapped several rounds of clear tape for extra grip. For the legs, I wore sheer Stockings dusted with delicate rhinestones, which not only visually elongated my leg lines and accentuated silhouette proportions, but also added shimmering focal points so the all-white ensemble never felt flat. In the second photo, I held a black smartphone as a prop for a phone-call pose, creating a contrasting narrative interplay between the everyday mundane and sci-fi lore.

The location was an outdoor plaza where the Day 2 crowds at CICF were immense, packed with surrounding photographers, attendees, and fellow cosplayers. Photographer NightDiva was exceptionally experienced in framing angles, using light stands and reflectors to melt the background crowds and architecture into smooth bokeh, keeping the subject prominently isolated. Given the short hemline and sweeping train, I incorporated ballet-like gestures—stretching my arms or leaning forward gracefully. Examples include holding a white daisy in the first photo, as well as touching my forehead, closing my eyes in profile, and raising both hands overhead. During these movements, I habitually pointed my toes and arched my instep; paired with the clear heels, this maximized the vertical extension of my calves on camera to highlight the dimensional layers and elegant drape of the gown.

The stone plaza tiles were unforgiving, and standing for hours in clear heels was quite exhausting—we circled the square repeatedly to catch the finest poses. Yet seeing the interplay of light and shadow dancing across the Stockings and skirt hem, along with the soft contours beneath the feather headpiece, made every moment rewarding. I also met so many passionate Neon Genesis Evangelion fans at CICF, and our interactions were delightful. The shoot went seamlessly, and huge thanks go out to the photographer for their dedication.
