Sharing some Convention photos from the anime convention, featuring Reimu cosplay from Touhou Project. Preparing this red-and-white shrine maiden costume was quite intricate: the oversized red ribbon headpiece had to be secured firmly to keep it from tilting in the crowds. The skirt features numerous layers which, combined with the shide (paper streamer) props, made the outfit noticeably heavy. The convention hall was packed with cluttered ambient light; to avoid distracting backgrounds, we chose an underpass or dim corner as our backdrop, using a wide aperture to darken the surroundings while using key and rim fill lights to make the red-and-white subject pop in this Portrait photography session.
During shooting, we experimented with diverse compositions: lifting the skirt while standing highlighted garment details, while jumping poses added great energy though snapshots easily blurred. In the end, a shot sitting on a folding ladder was chosen as the cover. The seated pose offers stable composition with the subject centered, beautifully showcasing the tiered skirt layers and the depth of the shide streamers while flattering leg proportions—paired with White stockings and Mary Jane shoes, it creates strong visual appeal. Controlling the fluttering momentum of the shide props during the shoot was essential to convey dynamic motion. To reduce post-processing workload, we paid close attention on set to the skirt's silhouette and hair flow, being careful not to crease the dress pleats.
Post-processing primarily unified the color grading, deepening the shadow tones and brightening highlights to ensure crisp red-and-white contrast. Although the sleeves and ribbon are detached pieces, they flutter gracefully with body movement. On-set adjustments included the angle of lifting the skirt, emotional gaze delivery, and shifting center of gravity. This entire photo set captures Reimu's classic red-and-white shrine maiden traits and documents the convention shoot experience wonderfully. If asked about the on-site feeling, wearing this outfit was genuinely hot, and the shide streamers easily brushed against people, requiring constant awareness of surroundings. The final visual presentation turned out clean and polished, fully meeting expectations for a deeply satisfying Convention photos experience.
