This Lyney outfit may look like a gorgeous and composed magician suit on the surface, but in reality, every styling detail from head to toe posed considerable challenges. The top hat, embellished with intricate gold star badges, metal plaques, and chain decorations, visually elevates the character's commanding presence, though it also required careful camera angles to prevent the hat from making the composition look top-heavy. The visually striking bright red bowtie on the chest, layered with brown patterned ribbons, creates a strong color contrast against the pure white ruffled shirt. The dark navy short cape and the magenta pauldron decoration on the right shoulder further enrich the upper body silhouette, giving the entire look sharp angles and clear layering.
The part that truly tested physical stamina was definitely the tight black leather corset. It not only needed to contour closely to the waistline to capture the character's sleekness, but also required maintaining an upright posture while keeping movements flexible. To convey the magician's effortless confidence on stage, I paid special attention to my posture whether standing or sitting, coordinating with the button details on the high-collared inner garment to ensure everything looked pristine on camera.
The lower body styling is the core highlight for showcasing lines in this look. Shiny black leather shorts paired with leather thigh straps, combined with black thigh-high stockings and heavy lace-up Martin boots, deliver a striking theatrical feel and a sharp, valiant edge. The material contrast between the stockings and leather shorts, outlined by the leg rings, adds a touch of refinement on top of the mystery.
To get closer to the character's aura in Genshin Impact, I specifically chose a layered wig in light platinum blonde, with long side-swept bangs to frame facial contours. Blue contact lenses and crisp, clean eye makeup under bright spotlights accurately recreated the magician's gaze that seems to see through everything. During the shoot, I also utilized the shadow cast by the top hat to add a hint of detachment and mystery to my eyes.
The shooting venue featured deep red velvet curtains, golden picture frames, an ornate armchair, and a black-and-white checkered floor. These elements greatly enhanced the atmosphere of a magic theater. During the shoot, holding the magician's top hat, flipping the brim, or pinching a red rose helped me enter the character's performing state faster, making body movements more relaxed and natural. Aside from close-up shots, full-body sitting poses not only highlighted the perfect match between the leg rings on the thigh and the stockings, but also fully presented the complete layering of the costume from neck down to boot soles.
Behind the scenes, the clips and chains on the hat easily shifted during movements, requiring quick fine-tuning whenever a pose paused to ensure the props looked visually flawless throughout. Yet it was precisely these meticulous details that formed the magician's innate on-stage poise in the final images. I hope that within the blend of reality and illusion under this red curtain, everyone can truly feel the unique charm of Lyney as a character.
