On Tanabata, we shot this Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions set of Rikka and Yuuta in the studio, and the entire photoshoot went quite smoothly. The Tyrant's Eye and the Dark Flame Master mentioned in the description were precisely the core of our setup, reflecting the unique interactive dynamic between the two in the classroom.
Let's talk about the character styling first. For Rikka, the focus is on the bluish-purple short hair and the eyepatch; the ahoge on top and the yellow hairclip are essential, requiring a bit of hairspray to stay upright without collapsing. The school uniform is a standard white shirt paired with a beige sleeveless knit vest and a red ribbon bow tie, complemented by a red-and-black plaid pleated skirt and Black stockings cosplay over-the-knee socks, finished with glossy black loafers. This outfit really flatters the leg shape—the combination of black stockings and the mini skirt looked fantastic in terms of texture and lines under the studio lights. On Yuuta's side, messy orange-brown hair and green contact lenses, paired with a white shirt, matching beige vest, and grey sweatpants, perfectly supported that awkward, slightly tsundere boyish charm.
Shooting this kind of duo interactive photoshoot in an indoor classroom scene relies heavily on capturing the characters' expressions and postures accurately. Especially in the solo shot where I sat cross-legged on the desk: considering Rikka's personality, the gaze needed to be slightly restrained, conveying that curious sense of seeming detached while being deeply immersed in chunibyo. During shooting, we adjusted limb angles for a long time to look cool without being too stiff. For the duo shots—like Photo 2 where I stand posing gestures while Yuuta sits, or Photo 3 where we both reach out toward the lens—we repeatedly fine-tuned hand placements and eye directions to achieve natural interaction. As for the playful head-pat angle in Photo 5, it wasn't staged at all, but rather a spontaneous moment captured while messing around in front of the camera.
The studio set was arranged with great care, creating the authentic vibe of a vintage Japanese classroom. The retro CRT TV in the background, the blue folders on the desks, the globe by the window, and the basketballs stacked in the cart all made the setting deeply immersive for this Classroom photo. Japanese phrases like "学校から駅へ行く" written in chalk on the blackboard further enhanced realism. During the shoot, we controlled the light through doors, windows, and curtains to allow natural indoor light to fall across our figures, combining with the overall warm tone to make skin tones look clear and translucent.
Post-processing was done together with my partner, focusing on color grading and environmental treatment. We aimed to preserve the retro texture of the classroom's woodwork without distracting from the main visual focus of the characters. When handling the textures of the Black stockings cosplay and leather shoes, we made sure to retain fabric grain and specular highlight reflections, making the overall visual closer to authentic school life while maintaining the delicacy of cosplay. Through this classroom studio shoot, being able to faithfully capture the original work's daily dynamic of bickering yet leaning on each other was a truly satisfying result for this Tanabata shoot.
