This Zenless Zone Zero Ellen Joe cosplay shoot took a lot of effort and time from early preparations to the final studio photos. As a very distinctive character, Ellen Joe has countless iconic elements: her signature black-and-red hair color, the spiky maid outfit, and that huge, substantial-looking giant weapon. To capture the essence of the Shark girl as closely as possible, I not only put great care into selecting the costume materials but also repeatedly adjusted the prop's grip feel.

The first full-body standing shot with the weapon is a pose I'm personally very satisfied with. Although the weapon is quite large and heavy, once I found the right center of gravity in the studio, the overall aura instantly popped. The design of the white and black maid skirt combined with the silver spiky choker strikes a perfect balance between sharp edge and maid-like elegance.

For the hair accessories, I specially chose a large white bow and metal hairclips matching the character design. The wig trimming avoided heavy blunt bangs that block vision, exposing one eye to convey that unique lazy and calm demeanor belonging to the Shark girl. To make the color tone fit better, the hair ends were given a subtle reddish-brown gradient, creating a translucent hair effect under the studio lights.

This time, I was fortunate to have the photographer "Hongbai" behind the camera, and the studio lighting was exceptionally crystal clear. The orange-red gradient background in Photo 3 is particularly effective at bringing out Ellen Joe's mature, cool big-sister vibe. Meanwhile, the highly dynamic ultra-wide-angle overhead perspective in Photo 2 lengthens the lines of the legs and the Black stockings cosplay, while holding an orange lollipop instantly breaks the seriousness and adds a playful atmosphere.

Speaking of the Black stockings cosplay, the base design of this outfit actually references a lot of cyberpunk-style inner wear. The wrapping feel of the Black stockings cosplay combined with the jagged decorations on the thighs creates rich visual layering without looking too monotonous. For a cosplayer, leg body stockings or Black stockings cosplay are a crucial part of accentuating the character's body proportions, and this coordination takes care of all those details.

During the shoot, the photographer and I discussed some contrast-driven action designs. The coldness when wielding the weapon versus the casualness when holding a lollipop creates a contrast that fits Ellen Joe's daily lazy personality baseline. Although many think such characters should be cold-blooded combat gods, I feel she inherently possesses a dual sense of relaxation akin to a schoolgirl and a working-class regular.

For the metal rivets and silver badges on the clothes, we paid special attention to ensuring the edges weren't too sharp to avoid scratching anyone. The hem of the maid skirt also features a layer of white tulle underneath, allowing the skirt's layers to show whether standing or sitting. Especially in the seated shots and leaning against the chair backrest, the natural draping wrinkles of the skirt look incredibly organic.

This cosplay took a little over two weeks to prepare from start to finish, primarily focused on polishing props and sewing costume details. As a maximalist, I tried my best to perfect all the straps, buckles, and bright yellow accent colors on Ellen Joe. Although the weather was quite hot on the shooting day and the studio was stuffy, seeing the final output made everyone feel that the previous effort was totally worth it.

As for makeup, instead of exaggerated stage makeup, it leaned toward a daily anime-manga feel, highlighting the natural transition of eye makeup and blush. The lip color is an orange-brown tint, which slightly neutralizes the heaviness of the overall black color and adds a bit of vitality.

There was also a very cute anecdote during the shoot: the panda-mask friend who accidentally wandered into Photos 2 and 3. At the time, it was actually one of our friends helping out with the reflector board next to us, who suddenly put on the mask and played around at the edge of the lens. Unexpectedly, it added some quirky and cute elements to this set. This unconventional shooting experience was actually much more interesting than rigidly striking standard poses.

Finally, taking advantage of the birthday blessing in the post title, I hope that through this Zenless Zone Zero Ellen Joe cosplay, fellow fans of the character can feel our sincere dedication. Whether it's the overall costume silhouette or the refinement of accessories, this completes my understanding and tribute to the character as a cosplayer. Photography and post-processing helped immensely in preserving the Shark girl's coldness and allure.
