When shooting the costume of Botsuraku Kizoku Rurikawa Tsubaki, capturing the character's personality became the focus of this set. The classic black and white maid outfit is not complex, but the high-collared black top paired with white buttons, along with the apron and headpiece made of large ruffles, conversely highlights the silhouette within the minimalist color scheme. To recreate the character's unique temperament, I tried turning around and glancing sideways from different angles in front of the lens. Especially the moment of looking back in the second picture, my gaze carries a hint of scrutiny and disdain, creating a unique tension.

For makeup, the focus was placed on smudging around the eyes and cheeks. Paired with deep-colored short hair and the cover of bangs, the expression became more focused between the eyebrows and eyes. The combination of white gloves and black glossy leather loafers also echoes the overall sharp black-and-white visual effect. During the studio portrait process, everyone kept discussing how to let static body language convey the character's layers of personality. The posture of lifting the skirt hem feels less like a forced pose and more like a state carrying a bit of casualness and defensiveness.

Guided by the soft light of the studio, the high-contrast black and white color scheme displays a strong sense of texture, making the fabric folds of the clothes and the leather reflections of the loafers crystal clear under the lens. This studio portrait method can beautifully highlight the design details of the costume itself while leaving enough space for the character's interpretation. During the shoot, we not only needed to restore the character's outward appearance but also present that feeling of seeming cold and aloof yet having internal emotional shifts through expressions and subtle body language, which was exactly the goal of this attempt.

In fact, many fellow fans ask what the appeal of the maid outfit element is. I think besides the classic visual impression, it lies more in the ability to create a sense of contrast for the character through it. Black and white is a timeless combination; for instance, the wide design and white turn-ups of the cuffs reduce the dullness of the black top. The setting of white socks and loafers brings out the character's unique student-like or vintage vibe, making the overall look more coordinated. To better display this coordination, we adjusted the height of the camera in the studio, experimenting with different perspectives from high-angle and low-angle shots to ensure the fullness of the attire could be reflected from all angles. This shoot was not only about restoring the appearance but also about using the character's shell to explore a stylized method of expression.

Looking back at the finished product of this shoot, this look of glancing back with a slightly tsundere expression exactly caught my understanding of the character. Everyday black and white maid outfit pieces often tend to look plain, so it is even more necessary to add more through movements and atmosphere. Buttoning up the collar, slightly lifting both hands, and intentionally presenting a repulsed expression are all meant to let this set of works tell a little story in a static frame. The studio's light source settings and background cleanliness this time also allowed the black and white dual main color scheme to be utilized to its absolute limit, and I will continue to try more similar design concepts in future stylized anime cosplay shoots.
