Shooting this set of convention photos actually went much smoother than expected. The lighting in the first photo wasn't intentionally set up at all; it was just the natural light filtering through the glass windows of the convention venue. I didn't expect it to create such an almost angelic, translucent holy light effect over the entire look. During the shoot, the photographer @γ·γ£γ«γ« captured this moment very sharply, catching not only the perfect timing of the eye focus but also preserving the subtle sheen within the dress folds. Huge thanks to the support team whose technical skills were on point the entire time.
When it comes to Flandre Scarlet Cosplay, the trickiest part of the overall styling isn't actually the dress itself, but the crystal wings on the back. This set of wings went through special counterweight processing. To present a lightweight and transparent effect in front of the lens, it requires high center-of-gravity balance when actually wearing them, and standing for a long time really tires out the lower back. Fortunately, the fabric chosen for the dress this time was very suitable; the white base with red trim combined with the layered ruffles gives a great three-dimensional tension from the side without looking bloated. The prop apple and teddy bear in my hands were specially prepared to match the character's iconic elements. Holding the bear or taking a pose with the apple provides a natural resting place for my hands, while utilizing the props helps soften the visual sharpness of the red and white color clash, making the frame appear more casual and gentle.
In terms of makeup, I didn't deliberately emphasize her dark and manic nature as the "Demon's Little Sister". Instead, based on the light that day, I chose a more translucent base and orange-toned eyeshadow, paired with a light blonde wig, making the overall atmosphere closer to the "holy light vibe" mentioned in the description. The trimming of the wig gave the bangs plenty of airiness and layering, so that even when looking down or letting my gaze wander, my eyes could still be clearly captured by the lens through the bangs. In the third photo, although there are passersby from the convention in the background, blurring them out actually brings out the unique vividness and realism of convention photos. However, if I had to pick the most satisfying one out of these three as a cover record, it would absolutely be the first one; its natural light, shadow, and composition genuinely have an immense visual impact.
To be honest, moving around on-site at the convention in this entire outfit was quite clumsy, especially having to be extremely careful not to accidentally step on the skirt hem or have passing cosplayers bump into my wings. But when I saw the state I presented in the final photos, all the accumulated daily exhaustion was completely wiped out. Bringing your favorite character to life and capturing her expression is, in itself, the most fitting thing for the atmosphere of this kind of anime cosplay convention photos.
