[Sunohara Kokona cosplay] Children's Day & Birthday Celebration in Blue Archive

Today is Children's Day and also Sunohara Kokona's birthday. On this double celebratory day, deciding to do this Sunohara Kokona cosplay was an easy choice that I made without hesitation.

The shoot took place on an outdoor light rail platform after the rain. Puddles on the ground mirrored the sky, and the colorful curved acrylic canopy overhead (a palette of blue, yellow, and green) delivered high saturation without being glaring. I was initially worried that overcast weather would make the photos look dull and gray, but the natural diffuse light made the loose light-blue smock top, white turnover collar, and pleated skirt look exceptionally clean, presenting a soft and natural slice-of-life realism.

The greatest highlight of this outfit is its minimalist yet meticulously detailed design. The light-blue smock paired with a navy pleated mini skirt is accented with an orange-yellow bow tie at the collar that brightens the whole look. Fluffy animal ears paired with a bright yellow cap and a long straight silver-gray wig with subtle greenish undertones instantly sculpted the character's silhouette. To match this tsundere yet childlike personality, I prepared a White thigh-highs outfit paired with black leather shoes featuring yellow-green shimmer lines. The white stockings reflected light beautifully while flattering leg contours, visually elongating overall body proportions during poses and matching the character's clear, innocent aesthetic.

Collaborating with the photographer, we explored several poses for this set. Sitting on the metal bench resting my chin in my hand conveyed a relaxed, contemplative mood; to capture the gap-moe contrast from the game illustrations, I also posed with arms crossed, wearing a deliberately serious, grown-up expression. Looking directly into the camera captured her youthful exterior trying hard to act mature. The glance back over my shoulder on the platform caught the fleeting moment when a breeze rustled the wig, snapping a vibrant, agile slice of life.

In post-processing, we added the glowing butterfly-shaped halo effect overhead, elevating the 2D photograph into the game character's full dimension. Although digitally composited, we preserved its translucent texture so it naturally floated above the yellow cap like a digital holographic projection, creating the sensation of breaking the fourth wall. Shooting this set gave me a more dimensional appreciation of Sunohara Kokona. In the Blue Archive story, she often carries herself as Shanhaijing Academy's top honor student, always striving to handle adult responsibilities; yet at heart, she remains a child who looks forward to birthday gifts on Children's Day. Portraying her innocent heart on a holiday celebrating kids was truly a wonderful Children's Day cosplay experience.

I especially love the walking and standing shots on the platform: the tactile yellow tactile paving and adjacent green lawn formed a harmonious complementary palette with the costume colors. The two bench shots conveyed serene tranquility, looking like she was waiting for a train or resting after school. The final shot with arms spread wide radiated lively energy straight off the page, showcasing her quirky, spirited academy demeanor.

Although the slippery wet ground after the rain caused minor challenges, getting the lighting and angles right beforehand resulted in thoroughly satisfying photo quality. Without chasing excessive background blur, we preserved the depth of the station, blending the character seamlessly into the real world. Completing this work on such a memorable day was not only a visual Anime cosplay expression, but also my sincere resonance as a cosplayer with this beloved character and holiday in Blue Archive.
