Choosing to shoot a Bride-themed set for Firefly this time was truly to materialize her light and somewhat fragile state in the Honkai: Star Rail story.
In terms of makeup and styling, to stay close to the character, the base makeup was done very clean and translucent. The eyeshadow combined layers of peach pink and light purple fine shimmers, paired with thick, curled eyelashes and blue colored contacts, making the gaze look clear yet a bit oblivious. As for the wig treatment, the black hairband and ribbon bows on the top increased character recognition, while that dash of blue-cyan gradient at the hair ends was my favorite detail of this look, adding a touch of dreamy coolness to the originally pure white hair.
The fabric of this outfit features a large area of chiffon and lace. The lace neckline on the chest and the design around the collarbones beautifully accentuate the neck lines, while the yellow bow on the corset sash paired with silver buttons neutralizes the monotony of white and blue. The blue-cyan gradient layers at the bottom of the skirt hem look like shards of fallen wings. The white over-the-knee socks and platform high heels perfectly recreate the gap moe of a "combat girl wearing a wedding dress" in my heart.
The shoot intentionally chose a European-style indoor scene featuring a massive mechanical clock, paired with blue and white flower clusters stacked all over the floor as well as hanging chains. This atmosphere, where industrialism and softness coexist, fits the worldview of Star Rail beautifully. The small champagne-colored roses held in my hands and the interactive scene of cutting chocolate cake later were both attempts to give the character Firefly more warmth of daily life, rather than being a cold display mannequin.
Actually, shooting a wedding theme is quite a test for instantaneous expression management, as it requires maintaining elegance while possessing that uniquely subtle sweetness and gentleness of the character. The tripod and some captured candid snapshots gave us a lot of room to play with, such as the moment of spreading out the skirt hem, or the interaction of pretending to feed cake, adding a bit of dynamic narrative to this set of static photos.
I don't want a Bride to only represent sweetness. Firefly herself inherently possesses the trait of being able to give everything for someone or something, so when coordinating this outfit and makeup, I intentionally preserved that "slightly empty yet full of yearning" look in the eyes, which is also my understanding of this character. Rather than magnificent lighting, I hope to convey that quiet strength within the frame through this Anime-style photography.
