[Calstone Light O cosplay] Full Sprint Moment of Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Image 1

Today's Calstone Light O outfit is one of the most exciting looks I've done recently. Starting prep at 6 AM, styling the wig alone took nearly an hour; getting this black wig with straight bangs and sideburn pieces into a naturally voluminous state really tests one's patience. Especially the two yellow animal ears and the white crescent moon decoration on top of the head—they must be fixed just right, or else side-profile photos will look asymmetrical. The small golden braids and tassel pendants were also packed with detail, tied to the right side of the hair to sway gently with movement, adding a lively texture.

For makeup, I deliberately deepened the eye contours to elongate my eye shape, paired with golden-yellow contact lenses so my gaze would look more striking on camera. Lip color was selected as a full brick red to form a cool-warm contrast with the purple-dominant outfit without being overly sweet. Blush was applied softly, as the character carries heroic sharpness and focus, which shouldn't appear too youthful or naive.

This purple race suit was a custom handmade order from a tailor. The spliced panels of light and dark purple, alongside white piping and sailor collar elements at the neckline, offer rich visual depth. My favorite feature is the pair of wide sleeves crafted from a cotton-linen blend with subtle sheen; when raising hands, cuffs drape down naturally to form lovely fabric folds. The inner lining of the collar is white, contrasting crisply with the purple outer layer. Although wearing this outfit outdoors got a bit hot given the armor-like tailored structure layered outside, it was entirely worth it for character fidelity.

Today's shooting location was at a set of stone steps in a city park, utilizing a low-angle selfie perspective. This angle not only elongates body proportions, but also lets the sleeves and head accessories form a framing effect that adds visual tension. Lighting was morning natural light without fill boards, relying purely on sky light reflection to render skin textures translucent. Having run around quite a bit today as the post mentioned "full-sprint all day," we caught different light angles throughout—front light in the morning, side-backlight in early afternoon, and warm yellow dusk light—adjusting poses and expressions for every time slot.

For characters in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, the core of Anime cosplay rests in spirit. Calstone Light O strikes me as quiet on the surface but driven by an inner surge, so I didn't force exaggerated expressions, interacting with the camera using a relaxed yet firm gaze instead. For action, extending a hand toward the lens was a spontaneous idea aimed at creating a "pulling you along to run together" immersion, which, paired with wide sleeve cuffs, tells a richer story than standing full-body shots. Wind-blown folds along the skirt hem from running were intentionally left unironed, as that spontaneous movement embodies the authentic state after daily Umamusume: Pretty Derby training.

The most time-consuming part of the whole look was securing head accessories—the yellow ears and white crescent were fixed with multiple layers of bobby pins and invisible hairnets to ensure no shifting even during sharp head lowers or turns. The wig itself is matte black, looking natural without cheap gloss. Due to high outdoor temperatures, I constantly touched up makeup to control oil, especially around nose wings and under the eyes. Since golden-yellow contact lenses easily make eye makeup look faint under strong light, eyeliner was drawn thicker than daily routines with deeper shading so gaze sharpness could be captured clearly even from afar.

The entire shoot lasted about four hours. Although exhausting, seeing final images—especially this low-angle perspective—made every detail feel perfectly displayed, from hair strand curves to sleeve cuff stitching down to the crescent ornament's curve. Next time I do this Carlton House cosplay, I might try capturing silhouette lighting in dusk backlights for another romantic racetrack atmosphere.
