The Firefly convention photos from World Line convention Day 1 are finally sorted out. Cosplaying Firefly at the convention site this time, I am extremely satisfied with the overall styling and makeup. The skirt features a short-in-front and long-in-back design, with layers of blue-and-white gradient light tulle stacked together, creating a wonderful wave-like feel on the skirt hem when walking. To match this outfit, I specially chose a pair of white stockings, paired with a cyan leg ring featuring butterfly decorations at the thigh position. I was originally worried that the leg ring would slip off while walking, so I spent some time adjusting the fixing strap before heading out. Fortunately, it stayed secure throughout the convention-visiting and shooting process without any awkward situations.
The head styling was the focus of this preparation. The silver-white wig had its bangs trimmed, and black-and-blue alternating bows were clipped to both sides of the top of the head. It was covered outside with two layers of white sheer veils, with a circle of small pearls embellished along the edge. To prop up the veil, invisible small hairpins were added inside for fixing. The sleeve covers are made of translucent lace material, designed in an off-the-shoulder style with yellow lace borders embellished along the edges. Special care was needed when wearing them for fear of snagging the lace. The hand bouquet held in hand was composed of pink, white, and light blue flowers, echoing the overall blue-and-white color tone.
The weather on that day was amazing, with plenty of sunshine and a very blue sky. The photographer found a relatively open background spot, and the distant city buildings, after being blurred by the lens, actually added a bit of collision effect between modern city and fantasy feel. Taking photos under natural light makes the translucency of the makeup very easy to show. For Firefly's makeup this time, I specially chose red contact lenses, and the eyeshadow and lipstick also opted for reddish color schemes, keeping the base makeup as clean as possible to avoid looking too heavy under strong light.
The shooting process was also quite a test of physical strength. Because the skirt hem features a short-in-front and long-in-back design, it was easily blown messy by the wind when walking, causing me to constantly tidy up the skirt during the shoot. The photographer was very patient, asking me to hold the bouquet and make some natural turning or forward-walking movements, capturing the moment when the tulle skirt fluttered through snapshots. Because the ground of the site was asphalt pavement, standing for a long time wearing white chunky-heeled shoes really made my feet sore, but for the sake of good photo effects, I had to grit my teeth and persist. The visitor flow at the convention site was huge, and to find an empty space without people, we waited for several groups of crowds to pass before snapping a satisfactory composition.
There were many details in this outfit, from lace borders and prints on the tulle skirt to various small accessories. Every time wearing and organizing it required a lot of thought. However, seeing the images inside the camera screen, all the hassle felt entirely worthwhile. Being able to record the styling I meticulously prepared through the lens is the most fulfilling thing about doing cosplay. The overall state of Firefly this time was great, and I will continue to try different characters and stylings in the future.
