For this photoshoot of Misaki's swimsuit styling, the preliminary preparation work mainly focused on the wig and makeup styling. The wig part required styling black blunt bangs and long side braids. The structure of the updo on top of the head was relatively complex; in order to securely fix the metal-textured horn ornament and silver sunglasses on top, a lot of hairspray was used to ensure they wouldn't shift due to movements during the shoot.
In terms of makeup, the focus was on the depiction of the eyes. Light gray-blue contact lenses were chosen, matched with thick and slender false eyelashes. To recreate the character's cold and glamorous feel, the lower eyelids were deepened and smudged, and the brightening of the inner corners of the eyes and the glitter on the aegyo-sal were also carefully handled, making the gaze look more penetrating. The base makeup pursued a clean and translucent look, and bright red lipstick was applied to the lips. The overall makeup had prominent focal points and absorbed light very well during photography.
The costume is a black halter-neck backless style, connected by a golden triangular metal ring on the chest, with independent sleevelets on both sides of the shoulders. In the lower right corner of the frame, there is a blue-purple butterfly decoration, breaking the dullness of the overall black color. Since the background was a simple white wall, a lot of thought went into the lighting setup to capture texture. Black clothes easily blur into a mass in front of the lens, so fill soft light was applied from the front to guarantee the reflection of the neckline's metal buckle and the layering of the clothes, while avoiding overly heavy facial shadows.
During the shoot, the range of motion was limited because the halter-neck and backless design required the shoulder and neck lines to be naturally displayed. Pushing the sunglasses onto the top of the head was a crucial detail, adding layering to the entire styling. By adjusting the lens focal length, the degree of background blurring was controlled, locking the focal point tightly onto the face and upper body. In terms of expression management, it couldn't be too lively; it needed to maintain a calm yet oppressive state, staring straight into the lens with a slightly upturned corners of the mouth.
The atmosphere of the entire shoot was very focused; the makeup artist and the photographer cooperated wonderfully. After finishing each group of shots, we would look at the raw photos together to adjust details, such as the position of the wig or the angle of the lighting. From the preliminary makeup test to the final deliverables, every link of this styling worked hard to stay close to the lore setting. Although the clothing was relatively light and thin, under the indoor lighting environment, it was still necessary to pay attention to the overall posture and muscle tension in order to capture natural results. Although the whole process was somewhat tiring, seeing the final photos made me feel that the energy and time invested were completely worth it, and I hope this set of photos can present the atmospheric vibe the character deserves.
