The convention photos from Day 1 of the 39th Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo are finally organized! This time, I'm bringing you Firefly's bride cosplay look from Honkai: Star Rail. Honestly, even though I've attended quite a few conventions before, every time I prepare a new costume, I can still feel the fun and challenge of cosplay through the details. The base colors of this look are a very refreshing mint green and pure white, giving off an overall feeling that is airy, dreamy, and gentle.
First, let's talk about the design details of this costume. For the wig, I chose a silver-white base with subtle mint green gradient hair tips. I originally worried whether this color would look unnatural under strong outdoor sunlight, but the real outcome turned out exceptionally translucent. The head ornament combines black, white, and gold elements, paired with a mint green bow, creating rich visual layers. The collar features an exquisite high-neck lace design, with a gold-and-white heart-shaped bow on the chest accented by dangling bead chains that sway slightly as I walk, giving it a lively touch. The shoulders feature an off-the-shoulder ruffle design, where white lace fabric and fluffy texture shape the shoulder line, fitting the overall \"bride\" theme beautifully.
I am extremely satisfied with the skirt hem, which features an asymmetrical petal-like cut. The outer layer of white tulle is pieced with light cyan and mint green \"leaf petal\" motifs, with white rose ornaments and tiny pearls dotting the edge of each petal layer, adding a lavish texture. The skirt itself is designed with a high-low hem line, which, paired with an inner slip dress, creates clear distinct layers while showing off leg lines nicely during movement. This time I paired it with a pair of simple white low-heeled flats that harmonized perfectly with the outfit's color palette without overwhelming it.
The prop for this styling is a pure white bouquet, adorned with white roses and green foliage that make it look natural and realistic. During the shoot, holding the bouquet provided a natural visual focus, echoing nicely with the veil and white skirt. Speaking of the veil, the semi-transparent lightweight bridal veil used this time helped soften clutter in the background, making the subject stand out even more.
The location for this shoot was outside the venue at the 39th Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo. The foot traffic was huge, and the bustling convention environment was indeed quite challenging for photography. Special thanks to my collaborating photographer \"@八次方根\", who is exceptionally skilled at quickly securing clean backgrounds amidst crowds. When framing shots, we tried our best to use a wide aperture to blur passing pedestrians, buildings, and trees in the background, making the mint green and white costume pop in the frame. A few shots were candidly captured in motion—such as reaching forward and gently touching the veil; despite the noisy surroundings, the photographer captured a very relaxed and focused state, which truly tests candid shooting chemistry.
When taking these photos, it happened to be Guangzhou's humid and hot season, but the atmosphere at the convention remained enthusiastic. Cosplaying Firefly's bride look, I wanted to present a gentle, clean image with a touch of dreamy, serene elegance. The cool-toned combination of mint green and white, along with the wig's soft gradient effect, gave it a breathable feel under natural light without looking heavy. To highlight the skirt's fluffiness and layering, we adjusted standing angles several times during shooting to let the petal-shaped cuts unfold to their fullest.
My personal favorite in this set of convention photos is the fourth full-body photo, which fully demonstrates my understanding of this styling—from the veil, hair accessories, and skirt details down to the white shoes, complemented by the pose holding the bouquet, comprehensively showcasing this look to everyone. Compared to her regular combat form or casual clothes, this bride style design adds a gentler touch with less aggressiveness, while maintaining the character's distinct features in its details.
Throughout the shoot, I also had lovely brief interactions with many passersby and fellow fans at the venue. Although convention lighting and weather conditions weren't optimal, seeing the results through the lens after finishing this work made all the previous preparation and costume polishing completely worth it.
