[Tokai Teio cosplay] Energetic girl cosplay in UmaMusume Pretty Derby

To showcase the agility and dynamic feel on the racetrack, for this studio set of Tokai Teio cosplay, I specifically chose dynamic poses to match the flowing high ponytail. The biggest highlight of this costume is the red, white, and blue color-blocking design; the single-sided cape is adorned with gold tassels, which have great texture under the lights. The semi-transparent pink bow tie and the gold patterns on the blue cuff backgrounds achieve a very high level of fidelity in the details.

The third photo is a spontaneous snapshot captured during the shoot, requiring me to balance on one leg while clenching a fist forward with power. Not only was the long hair flowing, but the white pleated skirt and long boots also created clean, dynamic lines with the movement, making this pose and composition perfect for the cover. The white over-the-knee boots effectively elongated the leg proportions; however, since they are fully enclosed boots and the studio lights raised the temperature, taking them off worked up quite a bit of sweat—a small test of endurance.

Rather than static posing, I prefer action setups with storytelling. Characters in the UmaMusume Pretty Derby series have distinct personalities, and Tokai Teio's core traits are resilience and confidence. Therefore, I spent considerable time refining the gaze, striving to make my eyes convey both determined momentum and the lively expressiveness unique to 2D anime characters.

For hair and makeup, a bright reddish-brown wig was used. The white streak on the bangs and the horse-ear structure on top required careful styling with hairspray to ensure the ponytail maintained a nice curve when swishing without tangling or collapsing. Storing the props and outfit also requires care, especially the metallic tasseled epaulet, which can deform during transit and had to be smoothed out with a small comb before shooting. Because this costume has low skin exposure and is well-enclosed, it places high demands on shoulder and neck lines. Personally, I feel the third photo is the best interpretation of this look—showcasing the styling advantages while capturing the exact moment hair strands flew up, freezing the character sprinting on the track or ready to embrace victory. I hope to share this spirited energy with everyone. I also took many other Convention photos during the event, and sorting them out makes for another wonderful memory.
