The overall concept for this shoot centered on the theme of a springtime tea party. To embody that feeling of pretending it's spring, we constructed a complete Japanese-style set indoors. Expansive pink cherry blossom trees filled the background, accented by a paper umbrella and wooden folding screens, aiming to freeze a warm afternoon atmosphere within the frame.
Regarding the wardrobe and styling, the blue-and-white sleeveless dress served as the core of the entire look. To preserve an airy lightness, blue-and-white floral ruffles were layered beneath the skirt hem, harmonizing seamlessly with pure white pantyhose White stockings and white chunky-heeled Mary Janes for a unified color palette. The wig featured medium-long pastel-blue twin-tails adorned with black cross-shaped hairpins on both sides of the bangs, complemented by blue ribbon bows accented with small yellow flowers. Makeup focused primarily on the eyes: pink-toned eyeshadow layered with blue contact lenses and soft facial blush kept the complexion translucent and adorable before the lens.
Many nuanced details required careful control during the shoot. For example, in the seated floor compositions, adjusting leg angles ensured the texture of the White stockings was showcased cleanly while preventing the gathered skirt from appearing overly bulky. When holding the paper umbrella or cradling tea utensils, hand postures needed to remain relaxed, with glances subtly shifting between downcast eyes and direct camera contact to match the props. Photographer Miaodan brought seasoned lighting expertise; soft lighting maintained an ideal overall brightness, allowing the textures of the cherry blossoms and teaware to register crisply.
Preparing the tea set props also took thoughtful effort: green ceramic flagon bottles and petite teacups, alongside a white plush kitten, breathed plenty of slice-of-life warmth into the scene. For pouring motions, we fine-tuned teapot positioning and hand heights repeatedly to freeze the most natural, fluid moments. Although the weather remained a bit chilly on shoot day, standing inside this set surrounded by these props genuinely made time feel as though it were slowing down.
Speaking of the "100 Chinos Project," this is a creative series I have long wanted to pursue. The character naturally possesses a tranquil, sweet disposition, and I hope to explore her multi-faceted nuances through shifts across different seasons and backdrops. This cherry blossom Japanese-style photoshoot tea party is merely one stop along the journey; collaborating on set dressings and lighting taught me a great deal. Translating seasonal atmosphere and narrative depth into still portraits remained our constant creative focus. I hope these frames convey this serene, comforting tranquility, and I look forward to adding even more memorable works to this series.
