[Luo Tianyi Cosplay] Reminiscence of the Red Lotus: An Ancient Style Freeze-Frame under Garden Light and Shadow

This time, the cosplay shoot for "Reminiscence of the Red Lotus" was chosen in a garden setting with very lush greenery. The sigh-like summer atmosphere of the original song matches exceptionally well with locations featuring wooden long corridors and broad-leaved plants.

In terms of clothing, the outer layer consists of lightweight pink gauze, while the inside features a color-blocked style of vermilion and sky blue. This Chinese style portrait color scheme is highly eye-catching without being too clashing, and a lot of thought went into finding the pendant at the waist. The wig and its two iconic hair buns were tightly secured to prevent them from loosening during the shoot, and with the red-and-blue butterfly-shaped hair accessories, the details are in place to stay closer to the character. To fit the mood of the song, translucent aqua-green colored contacts were chosen, paired with a clear foundation makeup, making the presented temperament more restrained and serene.

Natural light was used throughout the entire shoot; the afternoon light filtered down through the leaves, forming beautiful light spots on the skirt hem and hair strands. When holding the artificial lotus flowers, I could take the opportunity to adjust the curvature of my arms. Several poses were attempted during the process; one was a composition where I sat on the railing with my legs naturally extended, which could display the layered sense of the skirt hem while reflecting the character's relaxed state. The red string tied around the ankle serves as a bright spot within the overall simple and elegant outfit, adding a lot of dynamic detail. The close-ups where I was leaning down to read used the lotus flowers as a foreground element, focusing attention on the light and shadow across my gaze and cheeks, which carries a strong sense of storytelling for this Lotus flower photography set.

The photographer was highly meticulous, constantly helping me check the refraction angles of the light and utilizing the diffused light within the woods to soften the skin tone. Because the sunlight was very piercing that day, some photos were slightly overexposed, but the post-processing intentionally preserved the atmosphere of the highlight areas while brightening the dark zones slightly to make the frame more translucent. No heavy filters were added in the overall post-processing, basically restoring the lush, green look of the garden itself.

Completing this set of works is not just to restore an image, but also an attempt to express that seemingly calm yet thought-provoking emotion in "Reminiscence of the Red Lotus." Although the props are artificial lotus flowers, placing oneself within a real garden environment makes it very easy to enter the character's state. The final effect of the photos is very fresh, and I quite like this kind of portrait work filled with a sense of flowing light and shadow, showcasing the beauty of Ancient style photography.
