Mentioning cosplaying Marcus this time, friends always love to tease me as a white little cake little Ma. Although this outfit looks fresh, wearing and putting it on still involves quite a few details to mind. The white-based blue-trimmed sailor suit has a crisp silhouette, the dark blue bow tie at the neckline and the embroidery on the edge of the hat have a great texture, especially the letter decoration on the side of the hat, which features very exquisite details. The wig is ash-gold long curly hair. To restore the character's lazy yet somewhat scholarly trait, I intentionally left loose braided pigtails on both sides, and the neat bangs were also meticulously styled with hair gel. In terms of makeup, the blue-gray circle lenses are the soul; the outer corners of the eyes are blended with red-pink tones, and the two small pearls dotted below the outer eye corners are an extra small design I added, presenting a slight refraction under the light.
The lighting of the shooting venue is very bright. Wanting a perspective different from the usual, the photographer took out a wide-angle lens. He had me lie horizontally on the ground, holding a yellowed prop book in my hand, and then he shot downwards from above. This kind of composition heavily challenges the stability of the posture, and the edges of the frame carry an obvious curved stretch distortion, but instead, it adds a kind of fantastical dramatic tension. That book in hand is actually just an empty shell prop; to keep the pages open and prevent my hands from shaking, my core muscle groups were secretly exerting force the whole time. In the background, other cosers wearing fluffy skirt outfits can be seen walking around, and the wood-toned venue paired with the on-site booth setup creates a very special anime convention atmosphere.
This ONLY event in Changsha is truly lively, and the theme setup of Rekindled! Games of the Summer-Gold Sea makes people feel immersed the moment they enter the venue. Fellow fans coming to visit the convention are extremely enthusiastic, helping each other watch bags, take photos, and exchange understandings of the characters. Because it's an ONLY event, everyone encountered understands this work, so even though I wore a heavy wig today, wore a stuffy hat, and constantly adjusted poses in front of the lens, I still felt full of motivation. Speaking of shooting, most of the photos today used a combination of natural light and ambient light. Because the wide-angle lens amplifies details in the center of the face, my base makeup used a matte-leaning foundation to prevent reflection, and the eye makeup appropriately intensified the contours to ensure the layers of the eye makeup remain visible despite lens distortion.
Actually, every time I do a cosplay, the happiest moment is seeing the character step from 2D into reality. The tailoring of the costume, the texture of the wig, and even that circle of white dashed line decoration on the hat are all striving to narrow the distance with the character. Although my shoulders and neck became somewhat sore today due to the horizontal book-holding posture, seeing the straight-out-of-camera raw state in the camera—with clean makeup and clear hair textures—made all the preliminary preparations feel completely worthwhile. The convention is not over yet; I plan to first tidy up the wig in the rest area, and then go around the booths to check if there are any nice merchandise items. Tonight, I'm planning to go eat an authentic Hunan cuisine meal to reward myself; after all, Changsha's food cannot be missed.
