[Corin cosplay] At Changsha Anime Convention: Becoming a Reluctant yet Hardworking Maid

At the Changsha Anime Convention venue, when I put on Corin's gear, my studio friends joked that I looked ready to demolish a house rather than clean a room. Indeed, the physical weight of this full set was far beyond my expectations. Still, once I committed to this character, I wanted to do my absolute best to showcase this contrast-filled girl.

Let's start with the design of this maid outfit. While it uses a classic black-and-white color palette, it is packed with intricate craftsmanship. The white ruffles and bowtie, paired with the slightly puffed pleats at the cuffs, preserve the gentle touch characteristic of traditional maid attire. However, the hemline of the skirt tells a completely different story—the sharp, irregular white sawtooth edges and metal studs immediately shift the vibe from domestic housework to battle readiness. The chunky silver chains dangling from the waist and the black leather straps are iconic elements of Zenless Zone Zero's New Eridu urban aesthetic. The boots are black platform tall boots with striking red accents on the heels; wearing them accentuates the legs while the thick soles provided stable support that kept me going through a full day of walking around the venue.

The core visual highlights of this setup are two heavily modified props. The first is the giant circular saw polearm. Unlike an ordinary chainsaw, the connection between the long shaft and the gears features a bright green mechanical casing, while the gear itself has heavy-duty dark gray teeth—holding it took up nearly half my body frame. To carry it around, I lightened the internal structure as much as possible, though it was still quite a test of arm strength. The second prop is the brownish-tan plush teddy bear I held in my arms. Although fluffy and adorable at first glance, its details carry a dangerous undertone: the eyes are replaced with cross-head screws, and the most striking feature is the sliced-open belly exposing a silver mechanical core and glowing red indicator lights, strapped secure with leather belts. This juxtaposition of a soft plush toy and cold machinery captures Corin's essence perfectly.

Now for the wig and makeup styling. The mint-green twintails are the soul of the entire look. Under the cool-toned indoor venue lighting, the color appeared vibrant and translucent, and I styled the curve of the twintails to look fluffy and natural. The white ruffled headband, accented on both sides with round, screw-like button ornaments, adds a charming mechanical-girl touch. For the eye makeup, I selected purplish-red contact lenses to stay true to the character design, while sharp eyeliner magnified the expressive power of my gaze—giving off a cool detachment while conveying Corin's stubborn, reluctant expression in front of the lens.

If there is one thing that stood out during the shoot, it was how much this outfit and gear tested my physical coordination. For full-body standing poses, my left hand held the giant circular saw while my right arm cradled the modified bear, requiring a steady stance in platform boots. With multiple layers in the skirt and swinging chains, the photographer had to patiently capture the moment when the chain lines looked most dynamic. For crouching or sitting poses, careful placement of the saw and bear was crucial to avoid obscuring the skirt layers. Adjusting the same pose multiple times to nail the optimal light and angle was tiring on the back, but seeing the final preview made every effort worthwhile.

The convention hall was much larger than expected, and its gray-and-white concrete walls with circular ceiling vents provided a great industrial backdrop that matched my outfit seamlessly. Many enthusiastic attendees stopped by to ask if they could take photos of the bear or the saw. Whenever interacting with fellow fans, I stayed in character with Corin's shy, earnest personality, intentionally putting on that "Please don't look at me, Corin will do her best!" expression. Moments like these remind me that cosplay is not just about putting on a costume, but about understanding and expressing the character's unique charm and sense of duty.

All in all, bringing this full setup to the Changsha Anime Convention was an incredibly fulfilling experience. Despite the physical strain, recreating such a distinctive character with heavy gear and mint-green twintails was an unforgettable memory. I hope these photos convey the complete charm of this look!
