Shooting this Kasugano Sora cosplay set was one of the smoothest experiences recently. Without any outdoor distractions and with moderate sunlight intensity, it was ideal for using a telephoto lens to capture natural facial expressions.
Before the shoot, I spent considerable time styling the wig into Twintails tied with black ribbons, striving to recreate that docile yet slightly sulky demeanor. In terms of wardrobe, I chose a white Sailor suit, a pinkish-brown plaid pleated skirt, and black Stockings. The Sailor suit fabric was crisp and structured with meticulous embroidery on the chest badge, holding its shape nicely on camera. The skirt pleats had to be smoothed out continuously by hand when sitting down to achieve that natural, flattering drape.
For props, I specially prepared a black floppy-eared rabbit plushie. Its plush fur texture showed rich dimension under natural light, and hugging it in my arms not only concealed awkward hand placements but also boosted the scene's cuteness. Additionally, the black backpack—accented with metal rings and a heart-shaped cutout—served as a great prop for the second photo, filling the composition's right side.
Because she is a character designed around having an "Onii-chan," my mindset during shooting leaned toward sweet obedience and reliance. In the photo reaching a hand toward the camera, the goal was to create an interactive feeling of wanting to hold hands and walk forward together; the shot sitting on the bench turning my head sideways was meant to capture a quiet moment, letting the skirt flare out while displaying the sleek lines of my black Stockings-clad legs. The photographer found many great angles, using the green lawn as a natural backdrop combined with dappled tree shadows, making the final light and shadow feel exceptionally airy and translucent.
In post-processing, minimal changes were made—mainly fine-tuning the contrast between highlights and shadows to keep the skin clear and luminous, while subtly desaturating the pink plaid skirt to make it look more natural. The natural sunlight from the raw files was already sufficient; excessive editing would only ruin that crisp, aloof atmosphere. We got quite a few great shots from this set, but my favorites remain these few poses, where the expressions and gestures clicked seamlessly.
This shoot also gave me fresh insights into lighting setups for uniform-based Campus style cosplay. Before heading out, I was worried whether the black Stockings would reflect harsh glare under bright sunlight, but fortunately, picking the right fabric paid off with fantastic on-camera texture. This finished photoshoot was truly a delightful creative experience.
