I finally got around to sorting through my convention photos from CICF! Guangzhou's weather that day was scorchingly hot, and with the massive bottleneck of passengers queuing up to exit Pazhou Station at the Poly World Trade Center Expo, I was already drenched in sweat before even stepping inside the hall. Just as the caption says, it was an absolute sea of people—let alone finding a decent shooting spot, simply walking forward was a relentless squeeze.
This time, I experimented with a styling that leans toward everyday commuter chic with a touch of sensual elegance. Pairing short black hair and dainty hairpins, I wore a grey form-fitting slip minidress draped half-off the shoulder with a brown fluffy knit cardigan. To visually elongate the legs, I intentionally chose nude sheer stockings and clear high heels. While this ensemble foregoes intricate weapon props or oversized wigs, I believe casual everyday outfits actually test a cosplayer's camera awareness and bodily poise far more rigorously. Holding a black quilted handbag on stage, gently brushing back my hair, or striking poses that accentuate the garment's cut instantly evoked that modern urban woman presence.
The moment I stepped onto the stage, the visual impact was truly overwhelming. Beneath the stage lay a solid sea of darkness, entirely composed of attendees holding up smartphones and DSLR cameras. The endless clatter of clicking shutters never gave you a single second to catch your breath. Times like that really test your stage professionalism—you cannot afford stage fright, and you have to lock onto lenses swiftly. Because the stage was covered in black carpet under direct lighting, improper angles would easily make leg proportions appear compressed. As a result, I consciously shifted my weight onto one leg and turned slightly sideways to carve out the waistline and leg curves—techniques honed through routine posing rehearsals and studying photos.
Pulling off these photos so smoothly also owed much to the two fellow cosplayers sharing the stage with me. Our three aesthetics formed a fascinating contrast: on one side was an energetic ninja style with blonde hair and a forehead protector, moving with powerful dynamic poses; on the other was a vibrant green-haired swimsuit maiden, bubbly and spirited. Standing between them, I brought a grounded, everyday lifestyle contrast. Chatting backstage between rotations, we all marveled at the sheer volume of foot traffic—not only did we constantly have to avoid having our skirts stepped on, but hand props also had to be guarded with our lives.
Yet that is precisely where the joy of conventions lies: despite exhaustion and aching legs, the moment you see the finished captures, everything feels completely worth it. Because of the heavy crowds, the photographers fought fiercely for angles, jostling for space to freeze such crisp, detailed moments—which is no small feat. I am immensely pleased with the angles captured by the photographer: they preserved my natural body proportions without lens distortion, beautifully highlighting the ribbed texture of the grey dress and the organic sheen of the stockings. I will keep preparing new styles and look forward to bringing more diverse visual experiences to upcoming offline events.
