Applications for the 2026 ChinaJoy independent pass are officially underway! Scheduled from July 31 to August 3 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, I'm planning to have an unforgettable time on-site with friends. I've curated several recent convention shots and studio photoshoots spanning various aesthetics to bring to the event and share with fellow enthusiasts in this Original cosplay sharing.
The first look is a blue-and-white long gown ensemble, which serves as our featured cover shot. The garment boasts abundant craftsmanship: the gilded openwork filigree across the chest and the metallic buckles on the shoulders required meticulous alignment. I deliberately paired white leg straps and golden thigh cuffs to add tactile depth to the overall silhouette, blending in an alluring Stockings cosplay dimension. For the wig, I selected high-saturation cobalt blended with pastel blue and white fibers, separating layers with a straightening iron and spending hours styling to achieve that airy yet substantial fullness seen in the pictures. The photoshoot took place indoors against carved wooden chairs and tropical foliage; to keep the colors from muddying, we used cool-toned illumination to preserve clean, vibrant clarity.
The second ensemble is a dark gothic-inspired military uniform. The red-and-black tailored coat paired with a mini skirt centers heavily on sharp tailoring and structured silhouette. Accented with golden braids and trims, I added black over-the-knee socks and leather leg straps to inject an edgy coolness for this Stockings cosplay aesthetic. For makeup, I chose dark contact lenses, sculpted defined eye contours, and selected a deep berry lip. To complement the mood, we shot in a studio set with a crimson velvet sofa and heavy iron chains, utilizing intense overhead and side lighting to sculpt dimensional facial contours while highlighting the costume's metallic hardware.
There is also a techwear-inspired outfit combining pastel pink and white. The massive prop firearm in hand was customized from a base replica model—fitted with LED strips and cute dangling charms—which took two full days of meticulous masking and airbrushing. To harmonize with a modern metropolis backdrop, we shot outdoors amidst soaring high-rises, harnessing natural daylight and architectural glass reflections to create a distinctly futuristic visual.
Additionally, there are several looks including a blonde angelic greatsword set, a blue-and-white gossamer floral crown style, and a red-and-white Christmas theme. For every style, I experimented with distinct makeup approaches and chiaroscuro lighting as part of this Multi-style cosplay styling endeavor. In truth, every cosplay undertaking—from receiving garments, tailoring, and building props to booking photographers, scouting studios, and planning post-processing—severely tests one's stamina and patience. Wig maintenance is especially demanding: after every shoot, gently detangling with conditioning spray and a comb is mandatory, as frizzy fibers directly undermine the finished image quality.
With ChinaJoy right around the corner, applying for the independent pass is all about interacting with fellow fans who cherish this subculture. Running around convention halls all day is physically exhausting; beyond packing safety pins, double-sided tape, and makeup touch-up kits, stocking up on energy drinks is a must. The beauty of anime conventions is that shared passion brings us together to appreciate each other's painstakingly prepared work.
