Convention photos often have a time lag, and this set of photos shot on-site at the Ijoy convention is finally in my hands. The bright white rectangular overhead lights neatly arranged on the ceiling of the exhibition hall corridor provided an excellent ambient light source. The smooth floor also reflected clear reflections, giving the entire set of photos a remarkably clean light and shadow texture. As a cosplayer who frequently attends events, I am incredibly familiar with convention flow. As long as you can find a slightly less crowded aisle, you can take great photos with the help of the on-site lighting.
This cosplay outfit features a massive contrast between black and purple in its color scheme. The upper body is a black halter-designed top; the bright pink bow on the chest, paired with a blue circular badge, adds a few playful colors to the overall pure black base. The lower body selects black shorts, which, combined with a black tights outfit and transparent platform block heels, visually elongates the leg proportions. The straps and garter elements around the thighs are actually a highlight of this styling—compared to traditional long skirts, this irregular cut adds a touch of sharpness. The black tulle headpiece not only covers the top of the head but also drapes backward, serving as an interactive prop during the shoot that gives a beautifully flowing effect when in motion.
As for the hair and makeup, the purple hairstyle with straight bangs paired with this decorative headpiece fits the overall dark-toned styling setting perfectly. To maintain a sharp facial contour, I emphasized the eyeliner and lip color, allowing the makeup to hold up under the high-brightness overhead lighting on-site without looking greasy. Honestly, walking around the exhibition hall in an outfit with such a long trail requires some skill, especially when encountering dense crowds, where you need to slightly lift the skirt hem to prevent tripping. Although the small golden horns and blue flower details on the headpiece are not large, they are exceptionally striking in close-up shots.
Honestly, every time I complete a look and head to an anime convention, being able to leave behind crisp and beautiful convention photos makes me incredibly happy. Because many of the photographers responsible for shooting on-site are mobile, it frequently happens that photos are taken but I have no idea which master captured them. Therefore, photo returns are often delayed or even lost, making it an absolute pleasant surprise to find this set of returns. In cosplay, details determine success or failure—from the hair to accessories to the soles of the shoes, a lot of prep work needs to be done in advance. Coupled with the fact that you often need to travel back and forth between various zones on the day of the convention, it takes a toll on physical stamina, but when seeing the final photos, all the hard work is instantly thrown to the back of my mind.
I particularly love the effect of the overhead light hitting my head and shoulders; the semi-transparent material of the black gauze appears highly layered under the intense light, while the wrinkles of the purple skirt hem also reveal excellent texture when catching the light. Although the convention background is relatively cluttered, because the large aperture blurred the backdrop, the silhouettes of photography equipment and distant figures conversely became wonderful atmospheric embellishments.
I also want to praise the atmosphere on-site; everyone was intensely focused on recording their favorite 2D daily life culture. Whether a cosplay novice or a veteran player, everyone can find their own place at an anime convention. The composition of this set of photos is actually quite extended and fluid—featuring actions like resting a chin on one hand, spreading out the tulle, and lifting one leg to showcase the flowing elegance of the skirt hem. The different motions perfectly display the natural profile of the clothing under various physical stresses. If there's an opportunity in the future, I will continue to wear this style of clothing to check into conventions, recording more interesting moments.
