I decided to shoot this Azur Lane Cat head cosplay swimsuit look because the character's design elements offer immense creative potential in a summer outdoor pool setting. The iconic cat head accessories combined with the navy blue and white swimsuit deliver a perfectly balanced refreshing aesthetic; thus, taking advantage of the hot weather, we moved our equipment out to this open-air pool for some outdoor photography.

The biggest highlights of this look are the headwear and sleeves. The purple goggles, oversized bow, and floral accents, integrated into the overall blue-and-white palette, reflect a very meticulous color design. The ruffled sleeves create fantastic dynamic flow whenever I move my arms. Compared to traditional anime cosplay costumes, this swimsuit cosplay outfit allows for far greater freedom of movement without feeling overly restrictive.

Sunlight was exceptionally strong on the day of the shoot. An outdoor swimming pool has high ambient brightness; shooting with standard parameters could easily lead to overexposure or loss of costume details. Therefore, we deliberately dialed down exposure compensation to preserve highlight textures, giving the entire frame a clean, luminous atmosphere. Meanwhile, low-angle shots effectively framed out messy crowds or background buildings, relying solely on mosaic tiles and azure water as visual anchors.

In terms of posing, the water-splashing snapshot in the first photo was the most difficult moment to capture in the entire set. It demanded precise water splash shapes while requiring facial expressions and body posture to remain completely relaxed and natural to look appealing. The photographer used a high shutter speed to freeze droplets suspended in mid-air, allowing them to form an arched translucent barrier. Although water splashed everywhere—including my face and wig—the captured instant of refreshment made the final shots feel vivid and organic, as if the coolness could be felt right through the screen.

The second photo expresses a different mood: seated along the edge of the pool's mosaic tiles, utilizing water refraction and reflections for composition. The parts of my legs submerged in water create a soft visual illusion due to rippling waves. Combined with a shallow depth-of-field lens effect, the background tiles and walls melt into a soft blue-green bokeh, further accentuating the subject's pose and intricate garment details.

Speaking of which, I'd like to touch on the actual shooting experience with this cosplay outfit. Although it is a swimsuit design, the sheer white tulle skirt underneath and the accessories on the headpiece created some drag when moving through water. The wig in particular had to be firmly secured with specialized bobby pins; otherwise, moving around in the water would easily cause it to shift or stick to my face. Before getting into the pool, we did thorough prep and waterproofing—reinforcing the wig with styling spray across large sections and using highly durable waterproof makeup to keep the look clean and fresh despite sweat and water splashes.

Outdoor location shoots inevitably come with hardships. Soaking in pool water for over half a day under direct outdoor sun caused noticeable tan lines on my arms and face, but to achieve optimal light, shadow, and that classic Summer Film vibe, all these efforts were well worth it. Furthermore, this swimsuit design balances practicality and aesthetics without unnecessary fabric clutter, allowing great comfort when moving around. Paired with the semi-sheer white overlay skirt, it delivers a lively, breezy aesthetic that resonates deeply with the persona of Cat head cosplay.

Another advantage of outdoor pool photography is that the mosaic tile textures on the pool bottom and backdrop serve as remarkably clean background elements. The blue mosaic wall and azure water surface balance out broad sunlight reflections.
