Shooting this Kamisato Ayaka cosplay outdoors in a sea of daisies was a deeply rewarding experience. Early preparations took a fair amount of thought, as the light blue chiffon dress I wore was a DIY Cosplay ensemble—the base outfit was from "Deep Sea Hospital" (深海医院), upon which I made customized accessory adjustments according to the character's style and outdoor lighting conditions of the day. The straw hat brim was inlaid with small white daisies and blue butterfly hair ornaments, paired with silver-white braided hair, attempting to simulate that cool yet gentle quality of the character through fine details.
During the shoot, the sunlight was extremely bright; after communicating with photographer Yiluo (@一萝), we decided to retain the high-contrast effect brought by this harsh direct light. Under intense sunlight, the semi-transparent chiffon texture of the skirt hem was clearly illuminated by light transmission, and the outfit's lace trim displayed rich layering at the boundary between shadow and highlight. Although such lighting isn't considered perfect in conventional photography, in an outdoor setting like a sea of daisies, it imparted a bright, natural vitality to the frame, making the atmosphere feel more authentic and vivid.
During shooting, I incorporated natural props from the environment to guide body movements. For instance, pinching a small white daisy with my hand and placing it between lip and nose not only guided visual focus toward my facial features, but also made the entire posture appear more relaxed. In another photo featuring blue hydrangeas, the color resonance created tonal unity, making the blue dress and floral bouquet stand out with vivid color contrast against green bushes and white daisies. To avoid harsh facial shadows caused by strong midday overhead light, we constantly adjusted our standing position and shooting angles, leveraging the straw hat brim to create partial shading and soften light transitions across the face.
During post-processing, I focused on preserving highlight areas to ensure white lace and daisies were not severely blown out, while boosting shadow details and slightly lowering the overall color temperature to render the blue-and-white color palette clean, fresh, and translucent. The entire process encompassed grasping the character's aura in a natural setting alongside practical considerations regarding outfit materials and light usage. Though this DIY Cosplay outfit isn't as intricate as the original character design, combining this fresh, casual styling with a sea of daisies presented a vibrant presence for the character beyond the game. Every Outdoor photography session serves as great practice in mastering light and detail, and seeing the final outcome makes all the time spent selecting fabrics and styling truly worthwhile.
