[Makima cosplay] Chainsaw Man: Makima and Miss Yamada Behind the Convenience Store at Night

This photoshoot captures Makima and Miss Yamada smoking behind a convenience store at night. To recreate Makima's look for this Makima cosplay, I wore a red wig with blunt bangs and tied a small side ponytail. For eye makeup, I specifically deepened the eyeliner and wore reddish-brown contact lenses to accentuate the character's icy, aloof demeanor. For the outfit, I styled a black biker leather jacket over a cropped white midriff-baring T-shirt, paired with dark cuffed denim shorts and ultra-sheer Black stockings, finished with white ankle boots and a black choker around my neck. Miss Yamada cosplay featured a striped button-down under an orange apron, topped with a matching headscarf, creating a vivid visual contrast between our costumes against the night.

The shooting location was chosen right outside a convenience store at night, backed by glass display windows, a shared power bank rental station, and black oil-drum-style bar tables and stools used as props. In terms of props, we prepared cigarettes, a lighter, a cigarette pack, and a portable blue ashtray. To capture natural interactive moments, we experimented with multiple poses, including leaning against the metal drums while smoking, handing over the cigarette pack with one hand, and the classic shot of sharing a flame to light a cigarette. The biggest challenge in Night street photography was lighting control: a cool-toned key light was cast on our faces, while the background preserved the warm neon lights of the convenience store and street, using temperature contrast to enhance three-dimensional depth. A wide aperture blurred out cluttered background lights and pedestrians, focusing visual attention entirely on us. To highlight the texture and lines of the Black stockings under nighttime lighting, the photographer adjusted camera positions multiple times. Throughout the shoot, we paid close attention to body language—it couldn't be stiff, needing to evoke a slightly languid, effortless attitude. The red hair was striking in the night scene, and paired with the rugged texture of the leather jacket, the overall street vibe perfectly matched our vision. We shot continuously from dusk until late at night, repeatedly confirming every detail from the curve of the wig to the exact posture of holding cigarettes between fingers to ensure faithful realism. In this set, emotional expression mattered far more than the poses themselves, conveying the palpable tension between the two characters through subtle gazes and posture.
