Many dynamic moments of this combat outfit for Wuthering Waves' Aemeath were captured on-site at the Shenzhen Anime Festival. These convention photos were taken at night, where the circular bokeh lights in the environment highlighted the subject nicely.
Let's start with the props. The greatsword was the visual centerpiece during the shoot. To recreate the transparent gradient effect from the original design, the blade was custom-made with acrylic material, and the blue cross structure and purple core at the crossguard reflected the lighting effectively. Because the sword is quite long, finding the right center of gravity when holding it for poses on-site was essential; the first close-up photo shows the handle details and overall smooth lines. As for the blue semi-circular headpiece with pink stars, the interior was lightweighted, and in actual testing, it stayed securely in place without shifting during jumps.
The costume was the highlight of this styling. The white cropped top was paired with a pink bow tie, and the blue heart-shaped pendant on the chest is a sequin accessory that creates a gradient reflective effect in dim light. Below is a multi-layered white-and-pink gradient pleated skirt, adorned with pink pentagram ornaments and long ribbons at the waist. To match this light, sweet style, the wig chosen was light pink with white highlights. The fibers were very smooth, achieving an airy, fluttering texture when captured in motion. The makeup maintained a clean, transparent finish, focusing on the upper and lower eyelashes and subtle purple eyeshadow blending, which, combined with light-colored contact lenses, captured the character's seemingly soft and cute yet slightly tsundere demeanor.
The shoot focused heavily on dynamic tension. Outside the exhibition hall at the Shenzhen Anime Festival, the photographer captured these action shots. The jumping snapshot in Photo 4 was taken after several test jumps, perfectly clicking the shutter right when the skirt flared naturally, hair flowed, and feet landed steadily. The support and stability of the white high-heeled boots during jumps were better than expected, with the white boots and gold trim accentuated under the lighting. Compared to static posing, these full-body action shots better showcase the character's vitality.
The half-body close-up in Photo 3 was an attempt at a playful, interactive feel—posing with fingers near the headpiece paired with a calm gaze, bringing a sense of composure alongside the character's boldness. Without extensive crew support, maintaining the props and outfit was mostly done independently; for instance, the wig tended to get messy in windy conditions, requiring occasional hairspray touch-ups. This convention shoot was primarily intended to document the final presentation of character creation, and the night bokeh made up for the lack of studio lighting conditions.
Choosing white high-heeled boots for this outfit was intended to brighten the overall look and lengthen the leg line, creating a balanced layer with the pink-dominant palette. Doing large-motion Cosplay photography outdoors is physically demanding, especially holding the heavy greatsword and maintaining balance after jumping, along with constantly adjusting positioning and lighting on-site. Looking at the final photos, the atmospheric background and the character's movements blend naturally without the stiffness of deliberate posing, serving as a genuine test of this complete costume and prop setup.
Finally, sharing a few personal thoughts: Cosplay is not just about replicating costumes and props, but also a secondary interpretation of the character. Trying to present this character through dynamic candid shots turned out better than expected. After all, capturing photos in a convention setting with such ambient bokeh and natural lighting was truly a wonderful experience.
