The Convention photos taken near booth D3 at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo are finally organized. This set of photos was primarily completed together with photographer NightDiva; to accentuate the clean lines of this costume, we spent considerable time scouting camera positions. Most of the full-body shots adopted a low-angle perspective, a framing technique that elongates body proportions beautifully—especially when paired with mesh Stockings and black high heels, making the leg lines appear remarkably continuous and graceful.
The costume itself features abundant details: a navy-blue bodice accented with golden filigree, along with a white ribbon and sapphire embellishments at the neckline and chest. The overall color scheme balances deep blue, vibrant orange, black, and white. The skirt features an asymmetrical cut with generous orange ruffles along the side, creating rich layered dimension as I walked. The ambient lighting at the convention was complex, particularly with strong reflections off the glass curtain wall next to the venue. To prevent awkward shadows on the face, we shifted our standing spots multiple times.
In terms of props, the most exhausting element was definitely that large parasol. The canopy pattern was gorgeous, fringed with a rim of yellow ruffles, looking exceptionally striking overhead. However, the parasol itself was quite heavy; holding it aloft or maintaining an open-parasol stance for extended periods left my arms intensely sore, so several photos were actually rapid candid snaps or shot leaning against a wall for support. Additionally, the black-and-gold wide-brimmed hat required repeated pinning with bobby pins to keep it from slipping askew when turning my head.
The sheer black mesh sleeves on the upper body and the black mesh Stockings below exhibited an evident translucent sheen under the strong lighting outside the expo hall, placing high demands on skin condition. To match the costume's palette, I chose vivid blue contacts which, combined with the upward-angled gaze, conveyed a focused intensity locked onto the camera. Before shooting, we tested the parasol in various configurations: opened behind my back, folded in hand, and tilted gently in front of me; the final combination of poses suited the regal magnificence of this cosplay attire perfectly.
The convention was packed with massive crowds. To ensure a clean background and minimize photobombing passersby, we specifically selected venue corners or high-contrast areas. Because we used speedlights to overpower and darken the background to isolate the subject, shooting was fast-paced, backed by great rapport with the photographer. Prepping this styling from putting on the wig to zipping up the boots took considerable time, but seeing both highlights and shadow details preserved cleanly in the final photos, along with the crisp metallic sheen of the gold embroidery, made all the on-site exhaustion worthwhile. For this pairing of mesh Stockings and high heels, a low-angle shot combined with lifting the skirt hem truly flatters proportions—my absolute favorite composition in this series, making for a fantastic Convention photos experience.
