For this Arknights Skadi the Corrupting Heart shoot themed around Past Self in Mirror, the core concept was utilizing mirrors and reflections to express the internal tug-of-war between the self and external perception. We chose a pure white studio backdrop, allowing visual attention to focus entirely on the garment textures and body movement.
The first red dress ensemble is exceptionally striking: the red-and-black color-blocked fabric features a glossy, leather-like finish, with heavily ruffled, pleated hem tiers that create impressive volume in motion. The metallic blue-and-black pointed witch hat posed quite a technical challenge, as its reflective finish easily blew out into harsh highlights under studio strobes; we spent significant time recalibrating light angles to preserve the surface's delicate color gradient. Strappy leg harnesses paired with metallic silver heeled boots injected a touch of rugged edge. Turning sideways before the mirror and reaching out to touch the glass was a deliberate gesture reflecting the theme of probing the boundaries between reality and illusion.
Reflected inside the mirror was the alternate blue-and-grey uniform styling. Its tailoring leans crisp and disciplined, enriched with intricate details across the short capelet and black-and-gold collar. Kneeling on the floor holding the massive greatsword with both hands, the mechanical detailing along the blade carried genuine physical weight. Holding my torso upright while maintaining the precise distance between blade and face was essential so the prop wouldn't obscure my features. To flatter skin texture, I opted for a soft matte base makeup paired with a silver-grey wig and crimson lenses, aligning closely with the canonical 2D design.
The final water-surface reflection composition was achieved through coordinated production and post-processing. The upper half is the real scene while the lower half is an inverted reflection, crafting inverted vertical symmetry. Intertwining the blue uniform and red gown within a unified frame resonated directly with the exploration of inner projection and fleeting illusions. In mirror-concept shoots, lens perspective and horizon leveling are critical—the slightest tilt makes post-alignment exceedingly difficult.
The entire shoot was physically demanding, particularly balancing the weight of the greatsword while sustaining kneeling poses. Still, the contrast between the glossy textiles and the clean white space turned out just as envisioned, anchoring the visual weight entirely through lighting and fabric textures without relying on busy sets. That wraps up the complete creative log of this project.
