[Asuna cosplay] Blue Archive Maid Squad: I Want the Golden Retriever Vibe Too

As a passionate player of Blue Archive, the image of Ichinose Asuna, the golden-haired little maid, has always had a special place in my heart. Taking the opportunity of this exhibition, I finally presented this complete Maid outfit. For the shoot, we specifically chose a venue with high exhibition hall ceilings, using a wide-angle, low-angle perspective to capture Asuna's energetic, reckless, yet adorable charm.
Regarding this look, what required the most effort was integrating the headpiece and the wig. The long, straight blonde hair actually requires careful styling—it shouldn't look too flat, but rather retain that fluffy volume characteristic of a golden retriever. The beast-ear headband adopted a custom 3D cut, firmly anchored atop the head with hidden clips and bobby pins so that it wouldn't shift even during airborne jumping motions. For the outfit, I chose a lightweight, textured blend of chiffon and cotton, and the bright blue ribbon on the chest used semi-gloss fabric to reflect a lovely accent color under the overhead lighting.
There are many detailed accents throughout the entire ensemble. For instance, the bright blue single-sided trim along the hem effectively tempers the solemnity of classic black and white, making the uniform better fit Asuna's whimsical, airheaded vibe. Fabric selection for the Black stockings was crucial: they needed to highlight leg contours while avoiding large, reflective glare spots under intense lighting. In the end, a matte material was chosen, paired with white chunky heels to visually elongate the overall proportions.
In terms of poses, beyond standard standing poses, I highly recommend trying low-angle jumping shots. If the shutter speed is fast enough, it can freeze the moment the skirt flares out, which perfectly echoes her clumsy, headlong character traits. Raising both hands in playful peace signs while airborne, combined with floating effects of puddings and plates scattered around, lets viewers instantly feel the lively, playful innocence behind the character.
However, shooting such action comes with trade-offs. Due to wide-angle perspective, some distortion may appear around the edges of the frame, requiring the photographer to make moderate corrections in post-processing to avoid awkward stretching. For me, it meant repeatedly fine-tuning the jump height and tucked-leg posture until the character's silhouette at the center of the frame looked properly extended and graceful.
For logistical props, I also brought a mop. Although it wasn't used in intense battle scenes, holding that long-handled mop while standing matched her foundational role as a "maid" and added an everyday touch. At the expo venue, many fellow fans recognized the character one after another. Being able to bring everyone's beloved character to life offline and leave such dynamic visual memories in front of the lens was truly satisfying.
Shooting photos with strong 2D anime attributes actually requires relaxing your movements even more. Many beginners tend to pose rigidly, but recreating a character is not just about physical resemblance—it is about dynamic expression in gaze and body language. The final photos convey plenty of warmth and approachability, and the classic pairing of Black stockings and a short skirt with fresh, light-toned makeup gives a crisp and clean impression.
During the shoot, to match that everyday "working spirit" attribute, I specifically chose blue contact lenses to match the character's eye color, paired with soft highlighter eye makeup to make the eyes look brighter. Contouring on the nose bridge and cheeks was kept subtle to preserve an overall youthful, girlish look. The garment's cut was actually modified with a raised waistline to make leg lines appear longer, which, alongside the floating cake and plate prop effects, brought that lightweight 2D anime physics into reality.
Regarding the airborne snapshot in photo two, it not only required tightening the leg muscles to offset body weight, but also controlling upper body posture to intentionally create a sense of "just-right weightlessness." Due to the wide-angle low-angle framing, the thighs gained more visual tension—what many fans affectionately describe as that "plump thigh" texture. Although the skirt was short, paired with over-the-knee Black stockings, the overall proportions remained very harmonious. In post-processing, color grading avoided excessive high contrast, maintaining a cool, soft tone that matched the venue's ceiling lights and industrial background structure. Overall, it was a very atmospheric set, and I hope everyone can feel through the lens her accident-prone yet eternally energetic personality.
