Taking advantage of the drizzling weather, I completed this Asuka shoot at an elevated platform in the suburbs and beside the winding light rail tracks. This long rainy season seems to have slowed down the whole world, also giving this set of photos just the right emotional keynote.
This time, I didn't choose those loud, aggressive ways of interpretation, but wanted to highlight the softness and unnoticeable vulnerability deep inside the character's heart. I specially changed into this classic white shirt and blue pinafore dress, tying on the red bow tie. The signature red A10 nerve connector hair clips on my head, along with the long orange-red hair, are still Asuka's most direct symbols of identity, as well as a striking bright color in the entire photo.
The transparent umbrella in my hand and the white daisies in the wrapping paper are the most important props for this transparent umbrella photoshoot. Looking at the world through the dense water droplets on the umbrella always brings a hazy filter feel. I rarely use daily accessories like headphones and a black school bag in cosplay works, but when the two are combined, matching these wet steps and lush green track scenery, that lifelike atmosphere of just finishing school and staying aimlessly in the rain naturally flows out.
On such an overcast and rainy day, the photographer's treatment of light is very crucial. Without intense sunlight, the diffused light instead makes my facial contours very soft, and the skin tone presents a natural sense of translucency. Especially for the full-body shot taken outside the platform, the post-rain accumulated water reflects the sky and tracks, which, together with the continuous green mountains in the distance and the tunnel entrance, forms a very wide long-shot composition.
In fact, everyone might have a scenery in their hearts waiting for the rain to stop. When playing her, although we cannot fully empathize with the pain and loneliness in those settings, being able to capture her extraordinary gentleness through such a quiet atmosphere amidst the scent of rain brings a great sense of accomplishment. The main post-processing keynote of this mood portrait set is a cyan-blue tone, forming a great warm-and-cool contrast with the orange-red hair. The moment I looked into the lens through the raindrops, I found myself immersed in that emotion too.
