The convention photos from this World Line Anime Convention are finally organized—cosplaying Cyrene from Honkai: Star Rail. Because shooting on a convention floor means tight schedules and complex surroundings, I coordinated in advance with photographer @Hanaka 羽 中 regarding the desired backlit warm-cool contrast aesthetic. For makeup and hair, the pink wig incorporated white gradient highlights, with the bangs and sideburns layered and trimmed numerous times to reach the ideal look. The edges of the Elf ears prop were blended to match skin tone, offering a snug, natural fit. The white and light-blue sections of the costume feature holographic and relief embossing, where the chest patterns cast rainbow refractions under the sunlight. To complement the overall aura, the eye makeup embraced a purple-pink palette accented with highlights and shimmer beneath the eyes, paired with purple contact lenses to make the gaze feel more vivid, alongside a dewy lip gloss to preserve translucent clarity.
Lighting across the convention floor was notoriously chaotic, yet the photographer ingeniously utilized the venue's backlight. Under strong side backlighting, the edges of hair strands and garment contours were illuminated, producing an ethereal, glowing effect akin to a built-in filter. The wide-aperture background bokeh revealed mottled blue flares, accentuating the main subject cleanly. To embody the character, I explored various gestures, such as resting an index finger lightly beneath the chin or extending a hand forward; though the movements were subtle, pairing them with shifted gazes evoked diverse emotional nuances. The second photo—a profile backlit shot—is my personal favorite, preserving both the luminous translucency of the hair and natural skin texture beautifully.
The venue temperature ran quite high on the day, so wearing this outfit packed with rigid accessories alongside a dense wig was undoubtedly challenging. The openwork armor pieces across the shoulders and arms, while gorgeous, demanded extreme care during walking and posing to prevent bumps or snags on the wig. Every cosplay undertaking is a dialogue with the character—from absorbing her demeanor to mimicking her gestures, it requires repeated practice before the mirror. For instance, Cyrene's tender yet mysterious aura called for softening the gaze while keeping the lips subtly composed.
Due to the tight time constraints of convention floor shoots, it is vital to communicate desired lighting ambiance and framing with the photographer ahead of time. This time, we actively sidestepped crowds in search of cool-toned backdrops paired with soft-light diffusion, and I am thrilled with the final outcome. From makeup and styling to post-processing color grading, the entire journey was met with dedication. The photographer's swift shutter captured many effortless, candid moments, making these shots feel less like mere pictures and more like slices of tiny stories. Though retouching was a major project, seeing the final frames made every effort worthwhile, and I eagerly anticipate the next convention encounter with a new character.
