[Herta cosplay] Wisdom and Mystery in Honkai: Star Rail: Recreating the Mage Costume

To embody the essence of the character as much as possible, a lot of thought went into hair, makeup, and props. Starting with the wig, the silver-gray medium-length straight hair paired with spiral sideburns on both sides is one of her iconic features; after repeated trimming and adjustments, I made sure both front and side profiles aligned with her official concept. For makeup, I selected blue contact lenses echoing her eyes, combined with cool-toned eyeshadow and lip color, projecting a composed and detached temperament overall.

The outfit combination truly tests tailoring. The black halter vest on the upper body combines cutout and strap elements, a design that visually cinches the waistline while subtly showing off abdominal lines to showcase her confidence and charm. White detached ruffled sleeves serve as a highlight, breaking the dark monotony and adding a light, layered feel to the upper body. The black choker around the neck echoes the black straps, completing the look seamlessly.

The lower half consists of a light purple pleated mini skirt and a dark outer overskirt printed with white totems, creating a visually striking contrast. Paired with black mid-calf boots adorned with gold buckles and straps along the cuffs, it adds a touch of crispness while maintaining the spellcaster's ornate style. Nude tights on the legs ensure a smooth transition along leg lines while creating subtle harmony with the cool palette. As for props, the long purple staff is crucial; although its top crystal carving presented some crafting challenges, it rendered fantastic texture under outdoor convention lighting.

The location for this shoot was chosen at an outdoor paved plaza; the natural flow of crowds and scattered lights in the background added a whimsical sense of traversing between reality and fiction to this ornate Witch costume. The primary tone was set to blue-violet, perfectly fitting the starry, sci-fi world of Honkai: Star Rail. When posing, I selected a relaxed seated posture with one hand supporting the wide brim of the pointed hat and the other holding the staff vertically beside me—an angle showcasing intricate costume details while projecting her powerful aura.

When cool-toned blue light hit the hat and sleeves, the resulting sheen was enchanting; this lighting arrangement allowed the fabric textures and subtle patterns of the costume to shine through. As a cosplayer portraying a character like Herta, I pay careful attention to facial expressions—a penetrating composure and effortless confidence that must radiate from within. Although the outfit and props had noticeable weight—especially with the heavy drape of the outer skirt—maintaining grace during every pose is an essential part of capturing her persona.

The details of this look involved thoughtful trade-offs; for instance, cutout designs balanced the visual heaviness, while stacking pleats and ruffles highlighted her ornate spellcaster qualities. Moving through convention venues and shooting throughout the day, the completeness of this outfit attracted many fellow fans' eyes.
